Still working on it

I get the feeling that another program might be brewing. If you have been following the "enabling PAT" thread, I can see we are going to need O/C functionality added real soon.

It it shown when you boot the computer, before windows starts to load. There are two lines of interest. One show the system bios version, and the other show the keyboard bios version. I think you can pause with the pause key if the info disappears to quickly.

I must admit that my only real dissapointment in my 5680 is the BIOS. In my opinion it is a VERY bare-bones BIOS with very few options. I would like to see (This is for Sager, not so much you Henrik) things like Wake on Ring/LAN and as many added goodies as can fit in the bios.

I agree that it would be nice with more settings in the bios. However, everything a bios can do, I can do by software, if the hardware supports it in the first place. Are you a network administrator or do you use any network management software?

2. The only utility that can monitor the cpu temp on Sagers. See this post.
I'm trying to get your temp monitor to work on my 8887, but all it shows is -274. Here's what I did:
1. Installed the Tvichwdemo
2. Ran the apiec_off.reg
3. Rebooted.
4. APCI-Compliant Embedded Controller shows Disabled (exclamation mark) in Device Manager properties.
5. Start (double-click) WinTemp.exe
6. Get warning in SysTray "Tvichw...not registered, click OK to continue" (there is no OK, just close popup message) EDIT: It says Windows - Fatal application exit, tvichw50 unregistered, click OK to continue. I don't see it in Task Manager.
7. Temperature box shows -274, never changes.
8. \Windows\System32 has Tvichw32.dll, \System32\Drivers has TVichw32.sys
9. Other files, including VXD, remain in c:\tvichw52

EDIT AGAIN: Downloaded newer TviCHW from entech. Start WinTemp, get EAccessViolation. No Tvichw32.dll in System32, has a TVichw32.sys in \Drivers.

Appreciate your help. You're one amazing programmer even if I can't get it working!

No i'm just a nerd. I'm working on both my CCNA and Netowork+ and i love having those kinds of things to play with on my home network, mostly for the "Wow that's cool" factor. Right now i'm working on setting up a FTP server at my home but since my IP address is assigned dynamically by my ISP i'm working on finding an easy way to resolve that IP to a host name. I know there's services that can do that (i hope) but i just need to find a free one.

Yeah, I know what you mean, its the cool-factor that gets me going too.
I saw that www.dynip.com have a 30-day free trial you could try. Maybe I look into Wake on LAN someday, quite a nifty feature, never used it myself, though.

Thanks for the detailed descriptions of what you did. You did everything correct so probably the temp monitor isnt working with your keyboard bios version. What version are you using? These problems with bios versions/tvichw52 will soon be history anyway because I have found another way to communicate with the EC.

Yer a night owl if you're living in Sweden! My BIOS is R3.06a.128 (Insyde v.1.01), H8 v.3.15.23 (keyboard I believe). (I've visited Goteborg, Stockholm, and Upsala. Love the vee-king skeeps and history.)

I'm a night owl for sure, thats the way it is when you are selfemployed, working both day and night. I've lived and studied in Gothenburg, now I live in the northern part. I wont look into the bios mess, hopefully my other approach will work for all clevo clones without having to take account for different bioses.

Looking forward to it. Thanks for all your contributions to the forums.

Henrik,

Will you make some of your source available by any chance? It wouldn't be hard to add unix support if I could get my hands on the low level routines.

Once my 4780's arrive (oh please make it sooner than later..) I'll be messing around for at least a month on one of them to get bsd hardware support going. Well.. depending if my day job lets me get unchained from the desk...

Ciao

Henrik -
Whatever became of this utility.
It sounded like you were on to something good.
My 5680 is telling me that it would like to make good use of such a utility

UNIX - or at least Linux support is already in the kernel for temp monitoring and other things, it uses the ACPI interface. On my 5680 I can monitor the temp, status of the fan, battery, what thottle state the cpu is in and a miriad of other things (in fact I even wrote an applet to do most of that - www.dockapps.org wmacpiload and wmthrottle). Right now you cant control fan speed through it but I am working on it.

Greetz
I wrote in another thread how i wish there was a HDD monitering utility. That way i could diagnose if something seems to be going haywire. I think it would be an effective tool to see what my hdd is writing/reading at and also if it always spins at (yeah, i know) 4200 rpm's or if it changes.
