Just installed my second Gig of RAM in my 9300. Do I need any virtual memory at all, or should i set the page file to 0?

Thanks

If you run any image/photo/video/3d modeling/rendering software it will want a pagefile. There's no performance gain from not having one so might as well put one on. I don't have a size recommendation though, maybe someone with more experience with em does. I've heard anywhere between 512MB max and 1.5x your system RAM... pretty big window, anyone want to clear it up?

windows keeps askin me to add virtual memory

I remember reading somewhere that Windows needs the pagefile to function most efficiently.

Yes. Windows needs the page file to run correctly. ~3 gigs page file is recommended for 2 gigs RAM.

Right click on My Computer and go to Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and then to Performance Settings. Click on the advanced tab and at the bottom is the pagefile settings. Click change button; you can have the system manage it or customize it. Make the initial and maximum the same (whatever you decide to set it to) that way it stays at that amount.

To continue with Draconis' post...

first set your page file to 0, then restart. Then defrag your hard drive, then set your paging file to whatever you want (I'm doing 2 gigs after everyone's response). Restart again, then defrag your hdd again. This will (hopefully) put your paging file in one spot so it's used most efficiently.

There are ways to set your page file to RAM, but really, what's the point? THe performance gain you'll get from it is not going to be very large...
