Once again, I'm just glad PCT has these forums and are so good about communicating here. I wouldn't have even known my order was back ordered if they didn't. And that would have resulted in a cancellation with me buying somewhere else.
Instead, I canceled my 8890 today and ordered a 5680-v from PCT. Saved a bit of money too. Sure, I wanted the monster but other than a slightly bigger screen and an extra bay to expand into I don't see much of a difference between it and the 5680 anyway. And the 5680 uses mini-PCI, meaning I could get the internal wireless-G adapter, which is what I really wanted.
As for the 8890 screen options, I'd either vote to wait for 16' or go with a 17 widescreen. I agree with Marquis - there's no point in an 8890 with a 15' screen, even if it is wide-aspect. Then it's just a bulkier 5680. Go for a 17', then you'd really have a monster, not to mention a great machine to watch DVD's on (as long as you have it plugged in!
Edit - I just realized that they are talking about the same screen the 5680 has. Maybe it was the "Like the 5680 has" in the poll that gave it away
In this case, it makes even more sense to hold off for the 16 or get a 17. An 8890 with a 15 is just a 5680 that is:
Bigger and heavier.
Has a 3rd bay option.
Has a media expansion port for an MP3 player or card reader which is nice, but hardly a necessity given all the aftermarket options available.
Runs longer on it's primary battery (but no option for a second).
Has a bigger keyboard with a numeric pad.
Uses Mini-usb, with no options currently either internally or aftermarket for Wireless-G.
To me, it seems clear - if you get an 8890, it should be because of the bigger screen. Otherwise the differences don't add up to much for most people.
