I6000 and fangui

post #1 of 21
Thread Starter
I dowloaded and installed fangui on my lappy today and was not to fond of the program. After playing around with the settings, I decided to uninstall it. Now my question is will the fan automatically adjust its speed the way it did before I installed the program?
post #2 of 21
the 6000 stock comes with fan on low all the time. if it get to say, mayube 55-60c, then high kicks on.

Once you restart the system it will go back to the original settings. If you don't want to restart, hit Fn+z. It resets the fans.

The fact that the fan in the i6000 is always set to speed "low" kind of annoys me very much. especially when typing texts..

after installation of fangui i have much better control.
Does anybody have experience what heat-configuration works well with the inspiron 6000?

at present i have the following:
on: 49 off:37 => slow
on: 55 off:49 =>high

A dissent: FanGui is triggered by the heat of the CPU. But there are other temperatures as well (DIMM, GPU, HD). Has anybody anny experience if these temperature climb while the CPU-Temp remains low...?

I'm not in front of mine at the moment, but my setup is very similar to this.

Yes, I wish there was a way to trigger fan control when the GPU gets hot (which btw is actually the DIMM temperature reading in fangui). The fan in the Inspiron 6000 will only cool the heatsinks for the CPU and GPU. All other hardware is not cooled by the fan.

My I6000 fan hardly ever comes on and the cpu temp 38c all day long surfing the net.

@boppo: Really?

Do you use FanGUI? Or any other fan-control-utility?

If yes: What configuration setting do you use?

if no: I thought all i6000 come with the pre-configuration: "fan is always on (speed:slow)"

Newbie question. How safe is using something like this? I saw talk of an i8kfangui which i thought was dell specific but so far im not using any since im not sure which one is best? Im a new 6000 user and the always-on fan is probably my only complaint for this system.

my fan never was on low when I got it. I use fangui and have it set for the fan to come on at 44c and go off at 31c, but I have it set to the observer mode so the bios handles the fan and I just watch the temp set at 38c.

been using it for over 3 years on my I8200. better be safe and see the temp of your lappy then not.

FanGui is not triggered by the GPU. So sometimes my GPU got hot (70*C) and the fan wasn't even on...or just on low. The BIOS will tun the fans on when the GPU gets hot. I usually leave fangui on when doing normal tasks...and if I game or anything, I turn fangui into observation mode, so the BIOS controls everything. Also, in case you didn't realize it the GPU and DIMM temps are switched (ie. the DIMM temperature reading is really the GPU temp, and vice-versa).

I got the mod version and the guy that did it switched them.

Is this true for the 600m and if it is, where can I get the version that fixes the issue?

What is this mod version, and where can I get it. PLEASE!!

If its not available online, please email it to me. wonka187@hotmail.com

Again, please, I would really like to get the modded version with the correct readings.

Found it! It is here:

http://mckenziedev.com/fproducts.htm

Its awesome, and it will turn the fans on based on GPU temp as well as CPU temp if you want. Also fixes the reversed DIMM/GPU readings. A must-have upgrade. Great, GREAT program.

Thanks for the link!

One question to you: Only the second fan is controlable by the GPU. The Inspiron 6000 has no second fan! How did you solve this issue?

thanks for the link wonka!

You're right...sorry. I always put the program into observation mode when I am playing games anyhow, I just use the program for temperature monitoring. I really hated that the DIMM/GPU readings were switched. Although, I have noticed that the GPU readings are around 4-6*C higher then actual temps. This seems standard for i9300 users too, so I am sure that it will be fixed in the future.

I know the feeling, the 60GB HD I got in my i6000 was a 4200rpm drive too. That's why I got the 7200rpm Hitachi 7k60 on eBay.

Wonka thanks for the link, this works great.

Hey, what's your GPU temp like when you're gaming? I've seen mine get as hot as 67C, I thought this seemed a little high.
post #20 of 21
I have seen my GPU that high as well with i8kfangui - and since i9kfangui seems to report GPU temps around 4*C higher then i8kfangui, I would expect 70*C temps. I have asked others repeatedly about the temp issue, and they all say not to worry about temps below 75*C or so.
