Inspiron 9300 getting too hot!

Hello everyone,

I've had my Inspiron 9300 for a few months now and I'm loving it to no end. But tonight... it was hotter than I had ever felt it a computer device! Not only was the keyboard warm, but the entire underside felt HOT! The system had been left on for about 4 hours, but come on... I know a lot of people never turn off their laptops. Yes, the system was running a-okay when I turned it off.

Here in Southern Cali, we're getting triple digit temperatures so I'm well aware of the higher ambient heat, but I didn't expect the laptop to get that hot! I'm afraid to use my 9300 at the moment. Are there any recommended solutions to provide better cooling for the laptop? I don't have air conditioning in my apartment so that idea is out the window. Any other suggestions?

I'm thinking of opening the 9300 and applying Arctic Silver 5, but I'm not quite sure how to do this. And I'm not sure if it will keep the laptop at normal temperatures in this Southern California heat.

Any idea's and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

laptop cooler? or tilt to elevate it to allow more air circulation for the underside.

Flip it over and make some eggs.

and if you have an Alienware, make a stake.

If you are overclocking your video card it can make the computer hotter than normal. I have noticed that even with AS5, my laptop is cookin. I do overclock the cpu and gpu, so I cant complain.

How hot?

I'm averaging 38 with cpu and 58 for gpu (using I9kfangui).

Forget about the laptop being hot. AREN'T YOU HOT! Triple digit temperatures with no AC? I bet you'll be the last one to die if we're all stuck in the desert! Don't be CHEAP! GET AC COOLING for both! lol

But ... he might be the straw the breaks the camel's back. Then we might have another national power grid crash ... and that would effect the air conditioning I am enjoying right now.

So, I would recommend he doesn't get an air conditioner. It might also be bad for him in some way ... perhaps it causes cancer (some study might show).

lol. You could try undervolting the CPU, the air coming out of mine is actually cool . As for the graphics card, it's damn hot. Even hotter once you start overclocking. With AS5 she's topping out at around 58C or so and that's at 370MHz. My card craps out at 380MHz, I think it needs better cooling and voltage, but I'm not volt modding it unless I can fit a miniture phase change in there

I get about 125 degrees F on vid. card during games, is this too hot??

Undervolt w/ either RMClock or CHC. Also using I9KFangui would give you greater fan control.

Maybe you need to clean your laptop, get the dust out of your heatsink fins and chassis vents as after several months they may be clogged with dust which is insulating the heat in your system????
