Power issues with the M30X and Toshiba Repairs - Advice please.

Hey all,

Recently it has taken more and more fiddling to get the AC adaptor cord plugged in properly. The front LED lights (The DC-in and the Battery) keep flickering on and off. Right now, I've pushed the power plug in and held it there with a book, so it's charging properly.

Here's what I want to ask: I took the laptop to Toshiba Mobilecare. After a couple of days of testing they said that they had to replace the entire motherboard! Has anyone else had this problem? And should I trust Toshiba with something like a motherboard replacement? Is this an operation that can end in disaster?

I mean, I'd rather have to use a book to keep the plug in than risk having my bootiful lappy ruined!

Damn, sorry. Not only did this thread get posted twice, I also found out the ''main thread'' on this issue. Have posted there as well...

Basically, I mentioned all this as well as a temporary ''fix'', which was to fiddle with the ac plug until the battery started charging, then prop the plug up with a book or something. Works well.

Damned if I want to be doing that for the next 5 years though. Also, what's the difference between a ''power board'' and a ''motherboard''?

Usually the ac plud is soldered onto the motherboard. Rather than fiddling with the mobo and trying to get it fixed it's usually easier for them to just swap out the mobo since in order to get at the plug, they have to pull the mobo out anyway. This is still a relatively new model, if you still have it under warranty, I would recommend you bring it to a premier service repair facility and have them swap the mobo.

Can something go wrong, of course that's part of murphy's law, and there's always the posibility of something going wrong. Just make sure to back up all your data before you send it in. Chances are everything will go smoothly, but it never hiurts to be prepared for the worst.

Can you trust toshiba to replace the mobo, absolutley, but make sure to go to a premier service facility (look on Toshiba's website). They are the ones that customers have consistantly evaluated as providing at least satisfactory service. I have two buddies that had their mobo's replaced in satellites (one died out of the blue and the other the network card had problems) and they both went well and both are very happy with their laptops now. If you can't trust them to do it, who are you going to trust?

Haha, very true g00nter. Thank you very much for the advice. Has allayed some of my fears. I guess I have no choice in the matter, after all!
