Only for the insane.....

Thread Starter
An associate of mine at work recently built a custom laptop. Now I use the term laptop loosely. He's one of those people who actually understand ALL the internal workings of his computer. He wanted portability but wasn't willing to sacrifice ANYTHING in the way of power and options. So he literally built his own. He made his own case (it makes the 8886 look small). And he installed a desktop motheboard and basically all desktop parts (except for parts where it wouldn't lower performance). To combat the heat of his frankenstein he built in a liquid cooling system! Oh man, if I had the money (I think he spent upwards of $6k) this would be a fun option, it's about twice the thinkness of the 8886 and he basically attached a desktop 19" LCD on hinges as his screen! I don't even know what the thing weighs but he seems to like it. Of course having to flush the cooling system after about 12 hours of use would be irritating but still.....

I think I'll leave the insane stuff to him and stick with my "small" 8886.

Well...

I think these guys could have saved your friend some of the trouble:

By the way, they resell the Clevos too.

Cheers.

I daydream about the same kind of idea.I would be inclined to find a snazzy aluminum briefcase with the right dimensions and go to work from that.
The tricky part is getting the power supplies all figured out so I can run it on the massive built in batteries without wasting too much power in the inverters.
Who cares if it weighs 35lbs,so long as you can take it with you!
Just imagine..."click" "click",your gorgeous 19" displey lifts up to greet you....mmmm!
"Just a second,I need to grab my briefnote©"
I think this idea is quite marketable!
Not to mention how much fun it would be to build!
