Pc-4300?

So, I was looking into adding ram to my system, and everything I read on this site says PC-4200 is what I have and need. However, when I opened my computer up for myself the ram said PC-4300. Newegg has one stick of 512 PC-4300 for sale, but is this what I want? I only have a single stick of 512 right now and I was hoping to upgrade to 1 gig cheaply, and the PC-4300 is only 50$ but whats the difference between 4300, and 4200? Will dual channel work with 4300? Why is this the first I've heard of 4300, are there any others out there with it?

you should be able to find what ram speed you have on your umm inventory checklist when you got computer. It should have the make plus the speed. Marking it as 4200 or umm 4300...I know mine is 4200. But I can't make the same assumption for yours. It would be the best place to start looking, if you are in the dark about what speeds to get as far as ram goes.

Sandra says I have pc4300 but mine is actually pc4200. CPUid makes the same mistake. maybe mine was mis-labelled.

You can purchase PC-4200 even though your other stick is 4300. However, keep in mind that it will be limited to a maximum of 4200 for both sticks.

So, assuming I buy another stick of PC-4300, will I be able to run dual channel? I guess what I'm getting at is that I'm curious why I was given PC-4300, and interested to know what the actual differences are between 4300 and 4200. Any speed differences couldnt be all that significant, so why does it exist? I've been kicking myself since January when I ordered this computer for only getting 512mb of ram.

Who knows? I saw PC-4300 on Newegg a few days ago, and I've actually never seen it before. My guess is its just a notch up from the PC-4200 in terms of the motherboard... I can't imagine it giving any noticable change over the 4200.

It's 4200 but the bios seems to be not really optimised and set to 4300, a kind of overclock.
