So how come these drivers work, yet if I go to ATI's website and try to download the 5.7's they won't let me install them?

I have a 8790 with the new bios and I installed the 5.7's you linked here, and it seems to work just fine, although when it installed the screen flickered alot after the restart but has never happened since.

I was just curious as to how you got these 5.7's to work.

The link takes you directly to ATI. There has been no involvement on my part.

Just curious about the quote in your sig. How does the 8790 do in SPECViewperf 8.1 with the Catalyst Mobility 5.7 drivers?

I never have actually benchmarked it believe it or not. Where I work, alot of the other engineers use IBM or Dell laptops and mine pretty much slaughters them. I mostly run Autodesk Inventor 10 and Solidworks 2005, and it runs much faster and more stable than the other laptops. One other engineer was impressed and he ended up buying the 4750 from PCTorque and his does a great job also. So I guess is not a really well backed saying in my sig, but more of a relative term. If only I had waited another year, then I could have had the 9880 with the Quadro. I really don't like ATI cards, but I am impressed that it still holds its own.

It's too bad Clevo did not offer the Mobility FireGL T2e in their computers back then. It performs at more than double the speed of the Mobility Radeon 9700 in CAD applications.

If you ever have the time, I'd be very interested in how the 8790 does in SPECviewperf 8.1.

I tried the mobility 5.7 drivers with my 8790 and when it boots up, although I can HEAR WinXP booting, my screen is black.
Can anyone tell me what I may have done wrong? I have uninstalled them and reinstalled them, still no video, just black. I finally just installed the default SAGER drivers for the 8790.

Your problem will most likely be common to many users installing Catalyst Mobility drivers on any system that has had Omega or any other modded drivers previously installed. Unfortunately, you may need to wait until you are ready to perform a clean install of your operating system before these drivers will install without issue.
