Dell's next laptop?!?

Anyone watches The Situation with Tucker Carlson on MSNBC? Near the end of the show, Tucker closes out the program by cracking jokes with his sidekick host. The sidekick has this big laptop (looks at least 19in widescreen), silver laptop with silver and black buttons. The emblem on the laptop looks like Dell's. Could this be Dell's "lexus" of laptops? The 2 color keyboard looks nice. It would be nice if it was lighted keyboard.

Id hate anything bigger that a 17.4" screen

It wouldnt suprise me if they came out with a 19" laptop for their new line. All this MCE push MS is doing could bring it about. Seems like all the major computer companies are coming out with some sort of home entertainment systems nowadays.

Easily portable? No, but still more portable than a desktop tower so there is a potential market there although it would be a certain high end niche obviously. I'm guessing more affluent customers would seriously consider it. Computer and TV combined and yet still portable when moving it from one location to another. Although not something business travelers would want.

There's a thread about the "Lexus" line that's geared towards high-paying consumers. It's pretty interesting.

19" would be a huge notebook. I can't see myself purchasing such a thing.

There is always going to be bigger, better notebooks after you purchase yours. You'll just have to deal with it.

Bigger doesn't necessarily equate to better. For me, I want SMALLER and better!
No, bigger isnt necessarily better. But think about it. More people want to watch tv on their computers (dont ask me why because I have no clue LOL). So 19" allows more screen realestate than 17". MS is pushing MCE and companies like Dell are pushing these home theatre centers as well as their computers. So for the guy with money to blow can get a laptop system instead of the desktop and have it more portable.

This is purely speculation on my part and not saying this is what Dell is doing or should do. Just saying there is a potential market here for them and it *might* be a market Dell is exploring. Wouldnt suprise me if they did anyhow. Thats all I'm saying. I can remember when people thought 17" was too big but they seem to have caught on.

If they can make it lighter or as light as the XPS2, I'll be interested. But the XPS2 is the upper limits of what I think of as truly portable. Any heavier and it's going to be a pain to take anywhere with me.

I would never want a 19" laptop. Personally, I think 17" is too big, which is why I'm staying away from the 9300 and the XPS. Anyway, Dell does have plans to build a 19" laptop, but I have no idea if it will be in the premium line-up. I do know that if it is, it will not be called a Dell. I really want to know what this new line will be called.

i hate anything bigger then 12.1"

I've become quite attached to that 700m, and it will probably be what I buy.
Anything bigger than 15.4" seems excessively large to me. Although, I wouldn't mind having an XPS 2 or 9300, it just doesn't seem very mobile. I think my 600m is the perfect size. I almost bought a 700m but wanted dedicated video.

I used 15" laptops for 2-3 years now, started with a 13" or something like that, now I've got a 17" 9300. Personally this 17" is just as portable as the 15" ones I had. I'm a bigger guy though, so i totally understand why some people love their 12" laptops. If Dell made a 19", i would seriously consider it. They better be putting a good screen on it though, I'd worry that the light leakage problem will just get worse the bigger they go...

I would consider a 19" laptop too, as long as its as lite as the 9300. I recently bought a 700m to tag team with my 9300. Wow, the 700m is nice despite its cramped keyboard.

I mean 19" are nice don't get me wrong. My XPS Gen2 was really nice, I just picked up at 700m and LOVE IT. The portability is what I wanted and the computer is great. Plus that 40% coupon was a help

The 19" laptops are for people who want the large screen size.

19" laptops are PORTABLE, not mobile, meaning any laptop is much easier than moving around a large desktop from one place to another.

Basically: >19" laptop always easier to move than the lightest of desktops, when you consider the cords you must move also.

I might get a 19" WUXGA laptop if it was similar in price to the i9300 17" WUXGA. I'd definitely get it if it offered more features and performance for your buck.

Well, as long as Dell offered compatible backpacks/carrying cases for a good price.

I'm waiting for the 50" laptop.
Actually, it looks like size is going both directions. At J and R in lower manhattan, there's a whole slew of 10.6" (and smaller) laptops that have caught everyone's eye. Somehow, I have a hard time believing these are fully functional computers, but just like there will be a niche for a 19"+, there's also one for 10"...or 8" models.

I have played with the 10.6" laptops and the keyboard and screen are too small. 700m is about the smallest laptop I would buy. A 13.3" widescreen laptop prob is the optimal size, that way the keyboard should be almost standard size. My only gripe with 700m is its cramp keyboard.
