i'd hate for this to be true, because rick did put so much on line with the z70va becoming available earlier.

I think that you should wait for the z70va. I am in the same position as you but I brain keep saying that I should wait so that I would not regret not having the x700 video card & bluetooth.

It is more of a "more" future proof thing.

That's true, the only thing stopping me is the way better card. But I seriously don't want to end up playing games in my dorm the whole day, but rather go out and have fun with friends. I'm sticking to the current z70v.

Thanks for everyone's opinion!

I played Half Life at 1280x800 with high settings and it worked fine from what I can tell other than the glitch in the engine that screws up the game.

I can play counterstrike:source at 1680x1050 with high settings fine and at 1280x800 with high settings and 2x antialiasing (my preference) and it works great.

(I have the non-refresh z70v.)

Hey, look on the bright side. You won't HAVE to sit in your dorm playing games all day; you can go outside and play games all day too!

Man, back off will ya with the pushing of the Z70Va. He already told you it won't arrive in time for him. It's not like they're both out, both the same price and he's blatantly choosing the wrong one.

At this point I think he's basically made up his mind and all you're doing by telling him to get the refresh over and over is to make him feel worse that he can't get it.

Thanks Chuck, I appreciate it. The recent news that the z70va basically guaranteed I will order the z70v (tomorrow, with the shinza's zeroshock sleeve ) I'm quite excited about it too; I've realized it's necessary that I have the laptop before move-in day because it would make me feel I have everything I need to start a new chapter in life, and plus the weaker x600 GPU should give me a slightly longer battery life.

the thing that really makes the choice so difficult (for me at least) is the fact that the price difference is so small. fortunately i dont start school till the end of august and i probably wont need a lappy right from the get go.

Very true, the price difference is small. Buying mine this afternoon .

I'm in the same boat as you guys. I have a desktop and don't need the laptop right away, so i'll just patiently wait for the Z70Va to come out and have it delivered to the dorm. Starting second year... can't wait to get back in the swing of things!

Of course, time is worth more than money to many people. I for example couldn't even wait for the Z70V, even though it is only minimally more expensive than the Z71V I ended up getting.

The actual price, though, isn't really known. ISTNC was merely making an estimate as to how much the units will cost... what will happen is, the Z70V will probably drop in price, and the Z70Va will be marketed at a little more than the Z70V's old price.

I need the laptop for class, which begins September 1st for me, but I'm willing to wait it out and see if I can scrape by a few days with no laptop. I wish Asus would confirm a definite date! Argh!

I doubt the base price of any units offered by ISTNC will drop in price. They have been the same for a long time. However, prices will drop because of the hardware.

You do realize that the Z70Va is basically the next product on the Z70V line, right? Typically, when a newer version is released, the older is usually dropped in price...

Wait and see then. But I won't be checking, I'm done with laptop hunting
post #37 of 57
Oh unlimitedx, I'm sure you'll still check. I've got my laptop, but I still read and watch what goes on. It's an addiction I tell ya.

Don't expect it to drop in price because it probably won't, rather expect it to drop out of sight altogether.

Donald is correct. In addition, since the newer version will have a better video card, the price will simply increase.

is the 50 dollar price difference actually a reality? cuz right now the small price difference makes it seem like asus is trying to replace the z70v with the z70va but the z70v is pretty new as is and i thought they were introducing the z70va as a different class of laptop.
