Hi guys, i'm new to this forum and i've been thinking about purchasing a fully loaded 16.1 in area51m. I have a hp zd7000 with a dead pixel that i am returning for the second time. My question is whether u guys think its worth it to order a 16.1 box at this point when alienware is looking at widescreens, and limited availability is stated on the screen. I'm just worried that the screen will fall behind in the widescreen revolution. Anyway, any insights or advice would help. peace

I hadn't realized there was a widescreen revolution...until 17" screens start offering much much better resolutions and the awkward wide resolutions are fully supported...count me out. Contrary to what most people will tell you on this board...I'm pretty sure just a little research went into deciding on the 16.1" for the new area-51m...i would assume they have a better idea as to what is going on in the industry than the lay person. Some will tell you there are shortages, others will say it is a discontinued size...all sounds like a convenient way to keep prices up...the Mercedes CL55 has limited availability...but what do you say when it zips by...lucky bastard! Get the analogy...now if you have your heart set on a 17" laptop...look at the new Sager 17"
...my decision came down between the Sager 17" and the Area-51m...well you can read below who won...
PS: If you want an AW widescreen-AW offers the Area-51m with a 15.4" screen but let me warn you it is awkward looking (IMO)!!!

I almost bought the HP ZD7000 but I just could not give up the extra pixels I got with the 16.1" (1600x1200) vs (1440 x 900). If they made a higher rez 17" I would be very intrested. The difference in sq/inch between 16.1 and 17" is only 5.4 (124.4 vs 129.8). I am attaching a table below if it will format right (it came from excel) that shows some screen size calc.
