snoopy...if you can...visit a DELL kiosk (you can sometimes find them in malls).

Go and PICK UP the dell, look at the construction...the thickness and weight.

and agreed...$350 is a lot of money regardless....

I've gone to a DELL kiosk, but they didn't have the 6000. They said it was too new and that DELL didn't send them any and they don't know when or if they will get one. It's also impossible to contact them because they have no phone. That was the one notebook that they didn't have.

No, I didn't buy the FS warranty, it doesn't include the accidental damage warranty that DELL and Toshiba have. Actually, the DELL warranty is 3 years at $299 and the Toshiba is 3 years at $429.

Now, the Toshiba has lifetime tech support, but I don't know if DELL is the same. I know that HP only has tech support for as long as the warranty is.

the dell isnt lifetime from what i know, only as long as the warranty is nuless you are buying an xps gen 2...

as for the i6000 i am not so sure on it, i mean it is nice but really i think the toshiba is better built than the i6000s that i have seen around campus. personally i would stick with the toshiba over the dell....

I just called DELL tech support and they said that the warranty is only good for as long as the warranty is that you have. In other words, it's not lifetime like Toshiba.

Here is a review I found of the m55
Its not the same as the specs of the m50 but maybe it will give you some idea of what its like.

no matter what i would suggest a 3 year warranty with accidental damage protection, it is a very very good thing to have and i would absolutely suggest it.

What place has the ati graphics card on the m50? I check the toshiba website, futureshop, and also bestbut but dont see ati. All i see is the Intel graphics card.
Thanks for the post

Thanks for the post

The M50 in Canada comes with 128 MB integrated video only, there is no dedicated video card.

I'm deciding on whether I should get the M50 or Asus Z63a. Are both integrated graphics card the same? On the Bestbuy website and Futureshop website (and even Toshiba Canada website) the M50 uses the "Intel Extreme Graphics 2 With 128 MB DDR Shared Video Memory". I thought that all only 915 series chipset (which includes the Graphics Media Accelerator 900) supports the new centrinos (Alviso?)

Does that mean that the M50 does not use the 915GM chipset but uses the 855GM chipset instead?

I'll check my M50 tonight and let you know what's in it.

thanks for the reply.

Went to an Asus dealer today and found that Asus notebooks indeed run very hot, so I'll probably remove Z63a from my list.

Anyways, back to the topic, the M40 with 128 MB integrated graphics cost approximately $1499.99 CAD while the M50, also with 128 MB integrated graphics costs approximately $1599.99 CAD. Simply comparing the specs, I find they are simliar, if not exactly the same. Am I missing on something or does that colour lid cost $100?

I'm also interested in the M60. Bestbuy has this amazingly spec-ed M60 for $1999.99. Any comments on that notebook? Is it better quality than M50 or at the same level. I've only read the review on notebookreview.com, but I would like some other comments on this notebook.

Thanks

its a different size too when you compare the m40 to the m50...

yes i know there is not a place in canada with an m50 that is anything other than integrated graphics but toshiba around the world releases machines with different specs, and i remember hearing of them with x600's.... i dont know where it is though.

the m60 is a solid machine with good power and a great price. it is at a pretty similar quality level to the m50 in my opinion.

Simply put, the adoption of 14" Wide LCD panels around the world is still FAR FAR below that of 15.4" Wide panels. For right now, 14" panels are more expensive for OEMs to purchase. Hense the cost is transfered to the customer.

This should start to change in 2006.

cause sometime in 2006 dell will be launching their own 14inch widescreen machine and with the increase in sales of 14inch widescreen lcd's it will drop the price cause more will be made.

I just got my M50 today, I ordered it from toshibadirect. It came with X600 im not sure how much Vram there is because the adaptor says 256mb, but i ordered with 256 system ram, and it wasnt touched. IDK, maybe its a 256mb X600.
for some reason i doubt it is, as far as i know toshiba doesnt use 256mb video cards for any machine...
Yea, and according to the specs from Toshiba, it could have a 64mb or 128mb x600 (tosh USA) or an intel integrated card with up to 128mb shared (noth US & Canada). Where exactly is it reading 256mb?
