PS/2 Issues....PLEASE HELP!!!

I know this topic has been brought up before but after a few days of testing i have yet to fix the problem. This may get a little complicated but i'll do my best.

I have my laptop and desktop sitting side by side hooked up to a KVM switch (Keyboard, Video, Mouse switch). I soon realized that it would make more sence to utilize the screens on my laptop and desktop at the same time and disconnect the video part, so now i just hit the scroll lock button twice and i quickly switch my keyboard and mouse between the two systems, a very sweet setup indeed. I am using a Logitech MX500 mouse with a USB to PS/2 adapter (mouse is USB, KVM switch only supports PS/2). As of now My keyboard is plugged into the KVM switch which then splits off and goes to both my desktop PS/2 port and laptop PS/2 port. My mouse on the other hand is plugged into a little USB device that converts the USB port into 2 PS/2 ports, it can be found here . If your wondering why i don't plug both the keyboard and mouse into that it's because the keyboard sampling rate is HORRIBLE, so games run very choppy...but it's not really noticible with the mouse plugged into it.

Now the main reason i want to make the PS/2 splitter work is so that i can use the extra buttons found on my MX500 mouse as they're very helpfull in games and web browsing, but i can't get those buttons to work when going through that USB adapter.

Now i checked the 5680 manual and it clearly says something to the effect of "The 5680 is equpited with one PS/2 Port, if you wish to use both an external keyboard and external mouse you may use a PS/2 Splitter." However, when i plug the mouse and keyboard into the PS/2 splitter and then plug the splitter into my 5680 (going thru a KVM switch mind you) i can only get the keyboard to function. I have tried the following:

Plugging JUST the mouse into both sides of the splitter, works fine.

Plugging JUST the keyboard into boths sides of the splitter, works fine.

Plugging it in normaly but w/o going through the KVM switch...no difference.

Disabling the touchpad via the synapsis utility, no luck (there is no way to disable the touchpad in device mannager).

Using a different mouse, no luck.

I have also tried every imaginable combination of plugging it in before/after boot up and plugging in the mouse and keyboard at seperate times.

Thanks to all of you who read all that, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

That IS confusing! Bottom line, simplify. Did you lose the green adapter that converts the MX500 USB to PS/2? If so, find another one. I don't know why, but the KVM is understandably too "stupid" (not that there's anything wrong with that) to split the signals from dual plug-ins. If you can't find the adapter, consider getting TWO mice. A small pain, especially if you want a GOOD mice on BOTH computers, but ....

Your post is kinda confusing but I read along the lines that you cannot use some buttons of your mx500 mouse in games.

I can use them all and I use USB.

Do you use the latest version of mouseware with the advanced settings .exe ?

It can once again allow keystrokes to be assigned to the buttons so that everything can be used in games.

Edit: I think you can disable the touchpad in the BIOS. At least thatn was possible with my old compaq

As I understand it one of his main problems is trying to use a KVM switch with a split cable on one of the ports. The KVM just thinks keyboard to keyboard and mouse to mouse.

Sorry i'll try to simplify it a little bit here.

FOrget about the KVM switch for now. Just think of it as I need to plug in both a external keyboard and mouse but i cannot use USB, which is why i bought the PS/2 splitter. The problem is that I cannot use both the keyboard and mouse going through the splitter.

I checked and there is not option to disable the touchpad in the bios or in device mannager. I did disable it through the software that came with it but that didn't help.

*Confusing*
If you don't know how a KVM switch works, read on: You Mouse Keyboard, and Video plug difectly into the switch. From there, there are two sets of cables, one goes to one computer on goes to another.

The problems is that USB KVM switches are expensive. My MX500 is plugged into the KVM switch via a USB to PS/2 converter. From there one set (mouse and keyboard, remember i'm not using the video) goes to my desktop and the other to my Sager. As of right now (for the Sager) the keyboard is plugging into my PS/2 port, and the mouse is plugged into a little device that replicates the PS/2 and then plugs into a usb port. The problem with that is i cannot get the "extra" buttons on my MX500 to work going through that.

Confusing i know, but i'm at my wits end with this. It's such a sweet set up to have BF1942 going on one screen and all my internet browsing and IM going on in the other. Then when i want to say go back to playing my game just hit scroll lock twice and my keyboard and mouse switch right over.

Well I have like zero experience with KVM switches besides that we used one where I worked to change video and keyboard but we used two mice to switch between the server and some client computer.

Anyway, by reasoning logically here, if you plug your mx500 directly in your sager using either ps/2 or usb, do the buttons work? (mine work with mouseware 9.78). Because if they do and there aint no software for some KVM switch, then I would _assume_ that it just won't work hardware-wise or something.

This part of your post I found kind of confusing however:

"As of right now (for the Sager) the keyboard is plugging into my PS/2 port, and the mouse is plugged into a little device that replicates the PS/2 and then plugs into a usb port"

So your KVM switches has say 2 ps/2 ports. One for your kb and one for your mouse aye? And then two cables (what kind?) go from your KVM to your laptop and your stationary. And then your mx500 buttons do not work? or whut?

Got latest mouseware? Perhaps that could work... How do you assign buttons for your games? bind mouse3/4/5 <action> or assign some button pgup and in game bind pgup <action> ?

The cables coming from the KVM are both PS/2. However since there is only one PS/2 port on my sager, the other one plugs into a USB device that replicates the PS/2 port. I have a link to it in my first post. Here's a link to the KVM switch if that will help. It's not a mouseware problem because the mouse just simply doesn't work when using the PS/2 splitter found here . I can't just plug it into the USB port because then there's not point in me having the kvm switch.

Just think of it this way. Imagine that the MX500 is only a PS/2 device, no USB. My keyboard is also PS/2. The PS/2 Y adapter i bought will no support both at once but i want to use both at once...what do i do?
