Memory Error's

I downloaded a memory testing program called MemTest 3.2. It runs within Windows. It keeps finding error's. My computer runs great with no lockups, or blue screens, ect. Should I be worried. I am considering pulling one stick and testing them seperatly. They are Kingston 1gb sticks.

Try memtest86. You cannot run a thorough test in windows.

I have tried to run it, but I was not successful. I burned the image to cd. I tried to boot to the cd and nothing happened. I got thrown back into Windows. I tried it with more than one disk.

Make sure your BIOS is set up to Boot from CD before your hard drive.

I did that by hitting F12 and chose to boot to cd. No go, it just sends be back into Windows. I burned the image. What am I doing wrong? It is frustrating.

I found the solution here:

I will run it overnight. Thanks for the responses.

Your Kingston memory might be defective. If you get it replaced, I recommend running memtest for 2-3 days to make sure it's free of errors. Here are my memtest results with Kingston VS dell:

Azure, when you were running memtest and got these results, did you have the battery in the machine, or out?

always with AC adapter plugged and battery not installed... why?

Brownouts (and surges) are notorious for causing...hiccups (sp?) in systems--especially RAM.

If you select "Diagnostics" under the F-12 boot menu, you can utilize Dell's memory test utility. It includes several types of tests, I ran it 12 times on my new Transcend 2GB. It can test 2047mb out of the total 2048mb. I had some random video corruption after installing the new memory, so I swapped slots and re-flashed the BIOS. The problem hasn't occured again so far, and all memory tests I've done came up clean.

do you mean RAM runs better with battery installed?

No, not "better" with the battery. I'd say, potentially more reliably. It acts as a fine Uninterruptable Power Supply, after all.

good point.
