Acer Aspire 1694WMLI - Quick input! - Page 3

I havent tried to overclock the GPU. The 256MB Version is a bit faster then the 128MB version. It also can handle a bit more details on.
The fan isnt really noisy. U can hear him but it´s not anoying. If u play a game he starts gettin louder, but it sounds more like flowing air then a e-motor. But if u play with sounds on, u won`t here him anymore

I will post pictures of the display tomorrow, its 2:24 am here and i am a bit tired

Ah fan turned off right now, there is no sound anymore.

Thanks for the info...

I read that it is possible to modify the acer powermanagement (settings for gpu and cpu) the way that you have a setting for office work where the fan remains quiet all the time. (Most likely all settings to minimum. Which should still work great for office work, which I know from my broke centrino 2Ghz notebook.)
Can you give it a try?

Well, it is 8.20a.m. here in NY now - so it should be 2.20p.m. at your place: Where are the pics!?!

How do you like the slot-in-dvd/cd-drive? Any advantages/disadvantages you see copared to common drives?

Will you try overclocking the gpu? Give us some bench`ies then...

I ordered the notebook now from Germany (I am here in NY for three month - and yeah, my notebook (Asus W3N) broke...). So it will not arrive here before wednesday or later...

BTW: Which software is pre-installed on the notebook? (esp. anti virus software)

So, sry weather was so fine outside today

It comes with the E Powermanagment from Acer, Windows XP Home, CD Writer software, Videoproducer, an Media center that plays DVD, MP3, shows JPG,..., u got the option to install Norton Antivirus 2005. I had 2897 3D Marks today without any oc`ing and without setting drivers to performance.

Here is a pic of the Aspire

And here of the display, it also shows the ePowermanagment. Display looks a bit dark here. But its brighter

@Kainskind:

Thank you for the pics! The first one looks gerat although you can hardly recognize the notebook itself... must be a dark place where you are living in Austra

Can you make a photo of the display with a common monitor beside it? And can you make a photo on which you can see the notebook a bit better?

Will you try overclocking the gpu?

Thanks in advance!

I found this very nice comparison shot:

It is the 1694 with 100% brightness beside an Iiyama 22" display with brightness set to 90%.

Looks great to me!

It isnt that kind of dark everyone talking about. Its a smooth background light which produces really nice contrast, colors with the crystal bright technology.

@Kainskind:
Some additional questions:

1.) How do you like the slot-in-cd/dvd-drive? Any advantages/disadvantages? Some owners state that it is quite noisy...

2.) What is the default clocking of the gpu? Do you know how much it can be overclocked?

3.) Is there anything you already dislike?

My DVD Drive was dmaged allready when my book was 1 week old a part of mechanic broke when it exit the DVD. The drive is from Matshita/ Panasonic. There is no firmawareupdate and it`s not region free. U can switch Region 5 times, then it will be locked to the last u choosed. That`s really annoying. And yes it`s noisy too. Thats the only thing i hate on the book. There is a perfect machine and then they put in such crap

I don`t know the default rates of the 256MB X700, there wil be no need for overclock it. That will give u maybe 5 fps more in a Game but producing much more heat and rape your book in time.

For example, i often play NFSU 2. And i play it on highest resolution with highest settings at all. There is no stutter, the X700 256MB handles that easily.

It broke?? What did you do? Or just by accident? :/
How long did it take to repair it?
It is a shame: It looks cool and the mechanism is cool, but the drive actually is crap
Creating/ripping DVDs works well? Did you try?

BTW: What is "NFSU 2"? HeHe...

I am going to play WoW, DIII and HL2 on it... Maybe I will get SC3 now that I am going to have the X700

I play Counterstrike source too and it runs great.

It was no accident with the drive. It exit the dvd and then it was dead Repair took 1 day.

Ripping should work but will take a long time.

Hmmm... with the right program and a 2Ghz PentiumM a 1.5h DVD should be ripped in less than 30min (as long as you do not pre-analyze it). At least that is wat I guess...
