I'm a hardware enthusiast who has no experience with laptops, so I'm not too sure with how much weight I'm willing to put up with.

What's the heaviest notebook you're willing to buy, assuming that it's your main machine? What you use it for isn't important; it's just the opinions that are interesting. I personally am college-bound, business major but I love gaming and media-related work between classes.

Hah, my 700m (4.1 lbs) is too heavy!

Personally, I love the weight and size of the 700m because I have a desktop as well so I wanted a really mobile system.

I think I could deal with anything that was around 6.5 lbs or less. Ideally, I would want something less then 5 lbs.

Its a personal choice thing. Everyone has their own limitations. I carried around a 8.5lb (over 10lb with battery and acessories) lappy for years and didnt bother me any. Just get yourself a good case or backpack you find comfotable and it wont be so bad.

If my main machine, then the weight doesn't factor, only the cost and features matter. The heaviest lappies are around 12~13lbs, which is very portable if you have a backpack.
If I have a main machine then 5.5 lbs is the absolute heaviest I am willing to contend with.

i love my S5n, at 2.8lbs, its prefect! On the other hand my Alienware Area-51m is like 12+

none of those options are too heavy

My XPS 2 is around 8 or 9lb and it's not heavy at all.

I'm a middle-of-the-road type of guy, and I prefer about 6lbs. It's my only computer (not counting work), and I wouldn't trade weight for features, or vise versa. This machine just plain rocks.

1) depends on the person.
2) weight has no effect for me.

I currently own a Sager 5680 that is almost according to spec 10 Lbs, at the time I wanted something that could play games VERY well, I got one, I'm already waiting to se what comes next that being the next Sager or Dell or whatever, has no bearing, specifications count to me. On another note I lift weights 6X a week so 10 Lbs isn't much.

Pretty much 6-6.5 lbs for me, but that's for a 15.4" screen. If I was to get a 14" it'd have to be 5-5.5".
yeah, your poll needs to go a lot higher than 8.5lbs for a lot of people to comment on it.
Size does matter -- I don't really want anything other than 15.4", and the thinner, the better.

But if I could get better battery life, I'd probably go up to 12 pounds (~5.4 kg) if I needed to. Weight's not that big of a deal.

(current: around 8 pounds)

It really depends on what you use it for. For a DTR notebook (read mobile desktop), the 8-9 pounds of the Dell twins are very good, but its still not something I'd want to drag around with me unless I specifically needed the 17" screen and extra power. For use as a general notebook I'd draw the line at 15.4" at 6.5 pounds. That being said, I prefer my 5 pound 12" iBook.

for me, the weight isn't an issue, it's the thickness. my S360 is 4.2 lbs and I wouldn't mind it being heavier, but i would really like it to be thinner. It's more how it feels to me, besides, weight in my mind is associated with quality.

4.2 lbs, sony S makes me happy, I have 7.5 lbs m6805, I can't image why ever carried anything that heavy. And for speed, i got a 1.8ghz dothan, some as5, a smaller copper wire. and a couple sticks of 512mb DDR2 533 coming in the mail. If you have been a NF person for a while, you know what i plan on doing with that, ;-),
