Will IBM Thinkpads ever have a 6800ultra in them?

I have been waiting for IBM to come out with a gaming laptop that can handle games such as Battlefield 2 with ease at high resolutions ala the DELL XPS 2. Am I being unreasonably optimistic?

Probably no 6800. IBM has never been gamer orientated; they're business orientated. No idea why execs in suits would need a GF6800. Of course with Leonov taking the helm it might happen but I definately wouldn't bet on it.

Well the graphics in ThinkPads now are all low-end. So I would expect/hope that eventually Lenovo would at least put in mid-end graphics like the X600 or 6600, or at least a 128 MB X300.

I would say NO.

For starter, IBM focus on business laptop, not gamers. So their laptop tends to be light, thin, portable, and weak on the graphics end.

I doubt you'll see cards that high; the higher end cards that they _do_ have are usually workstation related. The highest end card they have now is the FireGL, followed by the MR9600. At best, you can probably expect the X600, but I think that might be pushing it...

In my opinion IBM/Lenovo should begin producing gaming laptops. Their machines are built extremely solid and I am quite certain if they introduced gaming laptops their sales would skyrocket.

Yes, in 2450 when everything will rum on Pentium-500 40Ghz 200bit, nVidia 951258435451 5gb GPU, 80gb Ram, 100000000 gb 920000 rpm HD and running at about 40 degrees.
it doesnt seem like IBM is aiming for the gaming style, more for office work and durability

I would say about 2015 for some of those specs.

By then we'll have Geforce X800s or something like that.

A 'p' model. Maybe not Geforce 6800 Ultra, but perhaps QuadroFX Go1400.

I've got a T41p recently and it's very fast for it's size.

I bought it to replace one of my M60s. If you want to know why, it's because I almost always use my laptops over a desktop but now that I am taking it out more often I find it too big to handle over your lap.

Also, the Dell keyboard plain sucks. I, again, hadn't noticed it before because I use my M60 with an external keyboard.

The screen on the M60 is, however, 1.73 gigapixel of pure eye delight....

Doubtful, IBM stands for International Business Machine.
