I6000 wifi light going off intermittently

I have an inspiron 6000 with Intel ProWireless 2915 802.11a/b/g. The connection is fine and hardly ever disconnects but the wifi indicator on the casing goes off intermittently. I think this happens when the system goes into standby but it doesn't happen all the time. Anyone experience this before?

Also, when I disable the bluetooth, the light remains on all the time. How do I disable that? These problems are not functional but more aesthetics. Any advice?

My WIFI light goes off whenever i get a connection drop. The connection drops and then reconnects, and the only eveidence is that my WIFI light goes off... i have yet to be able to solve this.... even with transmit power to max and the latest drivers.

My bluetooth light goes off when i use Fn+F2 to disable it.

when it reconnects, does the light come back on?

Fn+F2 disables all wireless including bluetooth and wifi. any way to disable them separately?

Same thing that happened to me. Did you install the new driver from Dell's download page or have it installed already on your computer? If so, go back to the older version (A08). My computer was installed with A08. Then, when I installed A09, I noticed this problem. So, I uninstalled A09 and reinstalled A08. Everything was A0K. Hopefully it works for you.

When it reconnects the light doesnt come back on... the only way to get the light back on is to use Fn+F2 to turn it off and then back on. I have the latest drivers, applied various windows sp2 patches for wep2 and tried every wireless channel.

My laptop came with vs 9 drivers.... so i may try the vs 8 drivers.

The only way to disable the bluetooth and wireless is to manually disable each from device manager.

When I disable bluetooth using device manage in the CP, the light still remains on. So guess there's no way to disable BT light without wifi.

My wifi is v9.0.2.25 which appears to be the latest driver. Guess i'll wait for intel to produce another update.

These are harmless but annoying bugs. Wish dell would fix it soon.

Does anyone know what the various settings for the intel driver are for in device manager. ie. ad hoc, trasmit power, power management, etc. How can we boost the wifi signal strength?

I just tried and you are correct the bluetooth light remains.....

I am now using the intel 8.0.12 driver and 44 hours later the wifi light remains on and not a single dropout, so i guess that has solved my problem! and no noticable loss of feature using this driver.

will try A08 now. Will I need to uninstall A09 or can I install over it?

I uninstalled my first through the control panel > Add or remove programs option. Then, I reinstalled A08.

Well, when I did a fresh install, I used the Dell drivers CD that came with my OS CD. It told me what version was on the CD. Also, version A09 was released on July 7th. So, if you have a laptop built after that time, you probably have A09. If before, you probably have A08.

I think I just figured it out. Looks like I've got 9.0.0.61

If you're having the same problems as above, then try A08.

I found out how to get the latest version, but how do you get the older version?

You can go to the dowload drivers page on Dell. Under the Download Now link, there's a link to previous versions. Click on it. Presto. Better yet, here you go.
