IBM after lenovo....

Guys i want to buy a T43p but i'm really not trusting the lenovo so has anyone bought an ibm after they bought ibm products and and if someone did how is it and is the quality the same or what and thank you all.

Lenovo has bought out IBM's entire division, so its not like they've switched from IBM's ultra premium and super manufacturing facilities to some run-down shack. The quality of the Thinkpads are the same as always... Lenovo's main goal was maintaining quality while decreasing IBM's high manufactuering costs--which doesn't always mean replacing quality parts with cheap ones. Either way, Thinkpads are still Thinkpads...

thanks alot man i actually wanted to buy the XPS gen 2 at first but when i thought of my needs i found that the IBM T43p is the one i guess this sums it all up and thanks again for the help.

Yes, i just recieved a T43 last month, and it seems to be up to standard. BUT, i think the T series did switch (or is going to switch) factories. I read that the T used to be manufactured by a Chinese company that was a rival to Lenovo, so obviously Lenovo will usr their own facilities. I have no idea if this has/will effect quality. But yes, Lenovo also purchased IBM reputation, and I'm sure they intend to keep it. Also, the T was designed by IBM, still carries the IBM name, and IBM support for 5 years. So, at least for now, i would say go for it.

just got T43 2 hours ago.... WOW. That is about all I can say. There is no feeling of plastic anywhere on it at all. The package didn't even have a scratch on it at all. The double box was awesome. Absolutly love it.

You should love it because for business and travel purposes it blows everything else away. Anyway personally iv used all kinds of laptops but even now i just seem to go back with my true love and just recently purchased an IBM t43p and all i can say is everything else just doesn't compare. Hell just last week i had a 4 and a half hour flight and i used this thing throughout the whole way and the darn thing still had 30 minutes more battery life. the alienware i used to use was lucky if it got 1 hour 30 minutes.

hey man if yre havein troubles finding the t43p online dont be discouraged..........when i bought mine a month ago they didnt have my model online..........ususally its better to just call them up and see whats in stock.

as for the choice b/w the d610 and the t43 .........go for the d610........this was one of the primary laptops i was shopping around.....but then i decided to get the t43p cos i needed a more powerful grafics card....i believe the d610 and the t43 both will be running the X300/

Another thing is that when i was browsing reviews i came across bunch of people saying that there was a wierd static sound when u use hed fones on the d610.......i dunno if dell has fixed that yet...but thats sumthing u might wanna take a look at

ok so you are comparing a dell and an IBM and they are the same price and you want us to tell you which will be better???

easy... THE IBM

To prove why I say that I'll tell you this. At the schools that I work at they all tend to use Dell laptops. After one single year of use half have cracked sides or screens. The other half are so many out of date drivers that no one can find which one to use. The IBM when you pick it up feels solid. Absolutly no flex, IMO. The T43 is so small and light, I have been carring it around my house using it all day. Outside on my wireless network, to sitting at the kitchen table using it. It is great.

I have used laptops from Dell, to HP, to a sony and nothing, nothing at all beats the IBM.

If the price is nearly the same, I'd go with the ThinkPad. However, the Latitude's quality should at least be better than the Inspirons', though not quite as good as the IBM's.
Well, IBM is a batter build, but the Dell out-specs the IBM. 20GB larger hard drive, twice the RAM, and so on. Really, I'd go with IBM in this case (the differences aren't THAT great), but its something to keep in mind.

Unless you clarify which Dell laptops they have at the school, please don't spread this crap. Dell has two different lines - the Inpiron and the Lattitude. The Lattitude line is their business line and compares and competes very well with the Thinkpad line. If the school opted to go with the cheapest laptops they could find because they opted for quantity rather than quality, then they could be using $ 500 Dell 900's. Comparing that model to the D610 Lattitude is like comparing the space shuttle with an ultralite.

I have both a D610 and a T43 and I'd be hard pressed to pick between the two. The D610 has a superior screen in my opinion and is rock solid. I also think the D610 is easier, much easier, to mod. The Thinkpad's are just too propriertary. Heck, their bios is configured to ONLY recognize "sanctioned" hard drives, so when I tried to replace mine with a larger one (100 gig 5400), it wouldn't work. The D610... no problem!

They are both good laptops and I don't think you can go wrong with either one. It comes down to personal preferences and cost and configurability. Dell definitely has the edge on cost and configurability, you'll have to decide for yourself which one suits your preferences.

Since my old school went with laptops as well, I can tell you from experience they're the Inspiron--and the lowest end of the bunch. They're deliver not the best indication of Dell's quality, as they were constantly falling apart and breaking. But either way, IBM is better than most (some would say all) cases, and they have an excellent UXGA screen.

upgrading the RAM is easy in IBM's....so that will cost you 100 bux, and if you want a bigger hard drive, its another 50 dollars to sell the one you have online for an 80 GB....so the specs arent really too different, go for the IBM!!!!!!!!
