I have a 2.8GHZ 8887 laptop. I haven't changed anything except the keyboard from the original hardware configuration.
On some networks, either wired or wireless, I have a problem where the computer slows down to a crawl - everything stops going; the mouse cursor updates only once a second or so, and the fans start up in the computer and on the power supply. This happens about every five minutes or so, and lasts for about 5-10 seconds.
I've watched it happen in the task manager, and the CPU usage spikes to 100% during these events. The image name of the process that's spiking is the System process, and I haven't been able to figure out what part of the system is causing the problem.
It doesn't happen when I'm not hooked up to a network, and it doesn't happen when I'm on my wireless network at home (roadrunner in Greensboro, NC) but it does happen almost everywhere else I've gotten online.
Can anybody help? Is there any way to figure out what part of the system is sucking up all my CPU cycles?
Thanks,
Dave
