Loosening up screws

Yeah, so Dell definitely screwed on the screws too tight for my 700m for the RAM module under the keyboard. I can't unscrew it and the threads are kind of circularish already.

There's an old thread on this that I read and someone recommended a power tool which I tried but that didn't work either.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure you have a good tools

Use some heat and try turning the screw clockwise so that you can try to loosen the loctite and then try to unscrew it, counterclockwise.

Can't stress the proper tools highly enough. Those cool looking little chrome ones aren't worth a flip, get a heavy one with a very sharp point and bear down firmly. The fat one is the one I used to change the ram on my 700m on the bottom and under the keyboard...must...get...good...tools.

What should I use to heat the screw? Sorry for the DP.

I would suggest using nothing other than a soldering iron, and then still be very carefull.

ROFLMAO.

When I read heat it up, my mind was thinking along the lines of using like a blow dryer.

Then I read your reply about the soldering iron and I got a vision of myself holding a blow dryer to a laptops case for 45 minutes, bitching at whoever recommended that heating screws makes it easier to unlock them.

Heating the tip of the screwdriver is effective but a decent screwdriver with leverage can probably get it done. One good thing about those crappy little screwdrivers is that you can't work up enough leverage to round out the slots.

make sure the soldering iron is tinned!

I've done this procedure before with other electronics.

Way ahead of you. Already did!

When I get home, I'm going to try going clockwise to see if I can't loosen up the Loctite stuff. If that doesn't work, it's HEAT TIME!

FLAME ON!

Please be careful with the heat. Dont use a torch or something like that. Try a hairdryer. I personally have never tried using heat, but I heard it helps.

i had the EXACT same problem (you probably read the thread i started). well to make the long story short, i sent my 700m to Dell so they can deal with it. that's about 8-10 days coming off my 21 day complete satisfaction period

Yeah, I did read your thread. That does suck. I really don't want to send mine in/ Hopefully, I can get it off without too much difficulty.

As for the "Flame on" part I was just joking around. I saw Fantastic 4 last weekend so I'm still saying random cool quotes like that.
