x700 Driver Update - Page 2

post #21 of 75
What kind of problems can the modder cause? Is there any risk using it?
post #22 of 75
Just get the regular desktop Windows ATI Catalyst 5.7s... then use Mobility Modder. You can then install them on your laptop perfectly.

I got:
- With stock drivers
3Dmark01= 15849
3Dmark05= 2342

- With Catalyst 5.7
3Dmark01= 15533
3Dmark05= 2586

Nice scores. I find it interesting that the older versions of 3dmark show different score changes (sometimes worse) with newer drivers. Makes sense that the newest updated drivers will be focusing on newer games though, so I can see why this might be.

I'll have to OC my notebook to see if I get the same scores as you with the same clock speeds.

What are you using to OC. I tryed ATITool but it didn't show any results (no working properly).
Thanks,
Guilherme

I've never OC'd before, so I'll let you know how it goes when I try it (possibly tonight).

You might want to try ATI Tray Tools .
It has cool feature such as Auto 2D/3D clocks management feature that allows you to define two sets of clock setting - one for 2D environment (desktop, movies etc.) and the other one for 3D environment (Games), and then it will automatically select which clock setting to use accordingly.
FYI I set my X700 to run underclock at 300:300 (GPU:Mem) when running 2D applications and overclock to 400:375 when running games and ATI Tray Tools always able to manage those clocks flawlessly.
And the coolest thing is ATi Tray Tools also run on Windows XP x64 which running on my Ferrari at the moment!

OK. ATI Tray works, cause ATITools and Rage3D didn`t work properly in my machine.
My core/mem stock settings are 358/331.
Those are the standard values?
400/375 is working all right?
What`s your 3DMark05 score with 400/375?
Thanks,
Guilherme

Be careful with ATI Tray Tools. It crashes my ferrari when the ATI powerplay changes mode. As long as you stay on AC or disable powerplay it works fine.

In fact I had problems even plugged. I tryed to run 3DMark05 with 400/375 and it frost after a minute or so. Then I thought I already have a fast machine, so leave OC for the future (when more stable tools were became available).
Anyways, 2586 3D'05 ain't bad.

What? I OC my 8100 to 410/390 all the time and when it's stable even after a 2 hour Counter Strike Session or a 3 hour Psychonaughts session (awesome game by the way).

After installing Catalyst 5.7 there a tiny (1 line) horizontal white line in the bottom of the screen when gaming. Any1 knows or had any problem like this?

Nope, nothing like that. I AM having a problem with mine though: I can't get rid of FRAPS. I've uninstalled it and everything, and it still shows up in games and during 3dmark runs. WTH?

Try changing your resolution and gaming again, see if that helps.

I had the exact same problem... after installing the unian drivers - it installed also ati tray tools and one of its options was to show fps. I disabled it and everything was fine again.

Thanks for the tip! That makes perfect sense, since the FRAPS program always displays in the top left corner of the screen, and this one I can't turn off is in the top right corner. I'll check that out when I get a chance. I've never had a problem with FRAPS before, so I was quite frustrated when I thought that was what was causing my non-being-able-to-turn-off-fps visual.

Rock on.

OSD settings in ATI Tray Tools controls that.

You should use Artifact tester function and let ATI Tray find the maximum core:mem your card can achieve because quality difference among the GPUs and Memories (just like CPUs)
Try starting from 380:360 (should be safe enough) and work up from there.
On my card 400:375 is kinda extreme if i crank it up another 1 or 2 Mhz it will freeze my system.
Like someone said you should also disable PowerPlay and let ATI Tray manage the clocks for you.

Wow I'm getting some crazy OC then if you cant even do 400/375 and I am at a comfortable 410/390.

Hi, here http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=90424 for the problem, I know it was for 2003 but I prefer to perform a fresh manual installation of the drivers anyway.
Here on how to do it:
Once you've tried to install the drivers in the normal way and it'd bleated on about the hardware you will find that a folder called ATI has been created.
Now you need to do a manual driver upgrade of the video card so follow these instructions.
1) Go to device manager, right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware - device manager.
2) Click on the plus next to displayadaptors and double click on the adaptor shown.
3) Select the driver tab and then update driver.
4) If you've SP2 then click on not at this time, otherwise click on install from a specific location, then don't search, then next.
On the next screen select have disc.
5) Now you need to browse to the ATI and keep on browsing until you get to the driver and then the 2kxp_inf folders. Now choose the c2_2177 inf
6) Choose the correct adaptor description and load the files.
7) After rebooting navigate down the ATI folder until you get to open the CPanel folder, click on setup and it will install the control panel. Lastly, once you're sure things have been installed correctly, delete the ATI folder as it is no longer required.
Good luck.....

Let me guess, you are not gaming at the panel's native resolution. ATI drivers that shipped with my 8100 (4.12?) did this, as did every 5.x catalyst except 5.3. I noticed it was back when I loaded the Unian 5.6 drivers and is still here with the 5.7 drivers.

The white line seems to appear any time I run the panel less than the native res.
