usb 2.0 problems, sp2 install

OK. so i just got a new dvd-burner(pioneer dvr-109) and bought a sweet external enclosure(silver river) for it. upon successful installation, i tested out a burn, which resulted in laggy performance and a coaster. i tried again, but failed. one more, and success! i wasn't sure what was the matter, but now i realize that my usb ports don't function as usb 2.0 drivers are not properly installed or something. but it's my understanding that sp2 installs these drivers automatically. i can't seem to figure out why the drivers(usb 2.0 -via, the ones that come default with sager) are not installing properly(setup hangs and never completes installation). So, i've decided to reformat, and reinstall sp2.

can you PLEASE help me out and tell me step-by-step instructions on what the MOST OPTIMAL procedure for installing sp2 and all the drivers in What specific order? i'd like a CLEAN installation to have all of my drivers working properly.

On my 8790, I simply uninstalled the USB devices and then rebooted. Windows, then reinstalled the latest version of the USB 2.0 drivers automatically. It worked for my configuration; however, don't know if it will/will not for yours as my machine is different. I did not uninstall the USB attached devices - just the hub, etc...
