My XPS 2 vs i9300 thoughts (non technical)

I ordered my wife a 9300 a few weeks ago and liked it so much that I ordered myself an XPS 2. After unpacking my XPS 2 today I noticed several other things that I got with the XPS 2 other than the snazzy LEDs and cool case:

1) Software; I got an OS disk, an application disk, and a drivers disk along with a few other disks. The only disk I got with the i9300 was a WordPerfect disk.

2) TV/Digital audio adaptor cable; I got one with the XPS 2 but one didi not come with the i9300.

3) Printed material; I got a real printed Owner's Manual with the XPS 2, I only got a shortcut on the desktop on the i9300.

4) Screen cleaner cloth/cleaner; I got nice little set of cleaner and a cloth with the XPS 2, nothing with the i9300 (note: this may be because I did not order the better screen on my i9300)

It's interesting to see the differences between whats included with the 2 systems.

Don't take it the wrong way, but I don't think $20 worth of stuff is worth a $500 premium for virtually the same laptop performance/LCD wise.

It's no where near $500 difference when you equip them the same.

its around a 300 dollar difference for a large boost in gaming performance.

if you call dell they will send you most of the things you listed for the 9300, mine came with most the cds and a printed owners manual but did not have the TV/Digital audio adaptor cable and the drivers disk i called and that overnighted it to me.

Is the tv cable to stream/record tv on the laptop or display the laptop on the tv?

It's for hooking up the laptop to a TV and for hooking it up to an external digital audio decoder.

Mine cost $1403. I would have loved to have the XPS 2, but just didn't have the money to justify spending $400 more. I got the same screen, a big 80 gig HDD, slightly slower processor, and slightly slower vid card. Considering it plays all the newest games with all High settings, I'm happy. I think the XPS 2 will make a big difference in games in 6 months to a year from now, but I'll be selling my 9300 and upgrading by then...

I hate to say this, I build alot of PC's for people/relitives. All the stuff you list (minus screen cleaner) is in a box I have stuffed from many installs.

Dont even know why I keep it, but I got manuals, CD's, S-Video cables, VGA-DVI converters, single to dual RCA adapters......coming out of my *ss. All stuff almost no one uses. I will give it to them if I think they will use it, but honestly 99% of them dont, and if I give it to them they end up calling me and asking me "do I need this stuff?".

As far as a better gaming machine......yes but only if your game requires a very high end video card.....the 9300 6800Go plays all current games at good FPS.

The XPS2 is worth the extra $$$ is your main application is 3dmark and you live for bling bling looks.

My Reasons for buying the XPS 2:
I liked the paintjob better than the i9300.
I wanted to buy a top of the line video card.
2 hours of battery life is adequate.
XPS Customer Service (the phone tech I talked with about my light leaks was awesome.)

I do lots of installs for a corporation, and I run into the same problem. I can't leave any CDs or extra cables since people feel obligated to use them, and that means extra calls to the help desk.

I think the XPS2 and 9300 owners ought to stop sniping at each other. We all have our own unique reasons/justifications/budget considerations when we bought these things. The most important thing is to be happy and satisfied with our own purchase.

People please, it's simply a trim, you want it on your 9300 just order the part and install it yourself!
I had roughly $2k to spend on a lappy. the 9300 fit the bill with the 35% discount. It played my games just like I thought it would...but I want room to expand a bit.

When the 40% came out there wasn't even a full second of thought process...I just ordered the xps2 and returned my 9300.

If I didn't own a desktop and wanted a pure gaming laptop I would have bought an XPS2. Since I game mostly on my desktop with a 24" LCD, I just wanted a high powered laptop with the ability to play games when needed. I can still tote my 9300 to a lan and play all the latest games at a great framerate. I went with a 9300 for $1200. I sold my one year old 9100 and it paid for the new 9300. I couldn't be happier. I personally couldn't justify spending another $600 for an XPS2 but if I didn't own a desktop I would have paid the premium.

Either way you can't lose.

Well, it's a good thing they put the pretty lights and black and silver cosmetics on the XPS2. Otherwise, it would feel even more weird to get 4800 3dmarks on my 9300 which is within 2-300? points of a stock XPS2 and still get 3 hrs of battery life. I still can't get over that...

I get around 5200 to 5300 stock, overclocked I can get close to 6000 safely. If you want to keep that thing overclocked at that speed constantly be my guest
