QUICK Battery Life question - 6800 vs. x300

Hi guys,

Sorry, but Search is not working for me, so I need a quick answer (thank you!) to this question:

256MB NVIDA GeForce Go 6800
vs.
128MB ATI Mobility Radeon X300

What would the battery life difference be using a 9 cell battery?

Again, thanks!

47 minutes and 39.93432 seconds exactly

Can anyone help? (please?)

seems to be about an hour extra, give or take a couple minutes, but the difference in graphics power is HUGE.. plus ATI sucks, crappy drivers

But doesn't that only matter for games? (I don't play any)

Correct. Go with the x300 if you play no games.

Sorry to ask such a newbie question but is the battery consumption via the graphics card proportional to the “load” on the video card? That is, would the drain on the battery be appreciably more with the Go 6800 simply surfing the web as opposed to the mid grade X300 doing the same exact task in an otherwise comparable lap top?

^^^ The battery life is affected whether or not the card is under load... because the 6800Go draws more power even in idle state. The card simply requires more power to run than the x300.

not really because from the 2d aspect the cards are pretty close to the same speed.

if you ask me nvidia should program a mode in their drivers, no 3d, for when you arent using 3d at all and it lowers the clocks even more, i dont see why it can't use as little power as the ati's

The ATI Mobility RADEON X300 it is easily outgunned by the competition, in performance and specs.
If you pick 2 average cards and compare them:

Go with 256MB NVIDA GeForce Go 6800. It's obvious the battery live will be lower. Myself, I run on a 9 cell battery XPS2 with 256MB NVIDA GeForce Go 6800 Ultra for about 1.5 hours, with all lights enabled, wireless connection enabled and screen contrast at 70%.

Um, he won't be playing games. So why do those specs (for FF1X and 3dMark) matter at all?

Performance is tested best in games or 3DMarks, it's a standard those days. Professional reviews are always made like that.
You can see how a card does in performance while testing it in games or ultra expensive 3D graphic design software, which most reviewers can't afford.

I wanted to simply point out the big difference between the 2 cards, that he asked in the first post.

I get about 4 hours of my battery playing Winning Eleven 8 with the 6800.
