Ferrari 4000 temperature

Hello, just wondering if Acer provided a program w/ the 4000 so one can check its temperature.

Thanks.

Just use the mobile meter http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Oakland/8259/
- Also tells you about the discharge rate and the condition of your battery.

what would be the typical temps for:

1. rest w/ WiFi on
2. playing a game w/ WiFi on
3. watching a DVD w/WiFi on
Idle:
CPU 38-30 C
HD 36-38 C

Under Full load:
CPU 66-68 C
HD 40-44 C

DVD watching pretty much falls under the Idle temps, thought he optical drive will warm up some.

hmmm..I was watching a DVD yesterday with WiFi on and it was @ 75, according to mobile meter. Does environment temp. play a role? I live in central California and currently w/ no air conditioning in my apartment, so it does get hot in my computer room.

I don't get it?!?! When I watch DVDs my CPU stays at 800MHz and the temperature does not go up!! I can even watch DVDs for >2 hours.

The environment temperature plays a large role. When in an airconditioned room my CPU can be 33C when idle. On a hot summer day in Denmark, it can go up to 45C when idle.

I was trying some gaming right now, not much, just about 15-20 min and my temp went as high as 75C. Is it a normal temp when gaming? It will go higher than that?
Internet, office and this kind stuff around 42-45C.

Mine has been at 75C for several hours on a LAN party without any system crashes or anything. Wouldn't worry too much about it. The left side heat exhaust works very well - my handrests does not get very warm, but the person sitting left of me at the LAN-party complained that his right hand (which was on his mouse) got burned

mine is at 70-75C when the comp is doing nothing...this can't be right.

For the ferrari owners out there...when you are running on AC, not the battery, is the temp higher??

It depends on your powersettings and the load that your computer is under.

With always on mode, the CPU will always run at 2Ghz causing it to heat up.

On Laptop mode, the CPU will stay at 800 Mhz and ramp up according to the load you put on it. So even it it's on AC power, the computer should idle at 800 Mhz untill you run a program that requires more horsepower.

yea..it is already set at laptop...I also tried out speedswitch which does the same thing that the laptop setting should do in the control panel. The dynamic setting is comaparable to the laptop setting, and it doesn't work (always stays at 2.0Ghz and 70C using mobile meter). The battery optimized and batter max settings work, but with those it will stay at 800Mhz.

You can also try RMClock to control your voltage levels. If that doesn't work try a restore from scratch.

what is the best way to do a system restore on the ferrari?

What's the temperature of the hard disk while the processor is in full load? The Seagate Momentus is designed to support 55C at most. I'm more concerned about the hard disk than the processor when talking about temperature. Turion is able to support up to 95C , what's a surprise to me, that's a lot of heat.

HD is fine...usually from 30-40 I think. I just want it to be running normally though..it's great that the Turion can handle high heat, but if it not supposed to be at 70-80 when running no programs, this may be a problem in the future.

The processor stays at 80C and the HD at 40C? Are you sure about this? It's a big gap between these two temperatures, the processor should be warming more the HD unless Acer had done a really good work on the refrigerator system of the Ferrari 4000.

the culprit was windowsupdate running in the background. I ended its task in the task manager and speed went down to 800, temp down to 50C (I have it running in a hot room).

Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions.

I still would like to restore my comp. back to factory settings though. What is the best way to do this? I didn't make the DVD when I first booted the comp.

So, either: using the 3 Recovery CDs that came with the comp. or using Acer eRecovery.

Which one is best?

Not sure the most i did using the Acer recovery was set my video card drivers back to default. It was pretty easy. When you try it you post about it since you'll probably be the first to do it.
