t42 ram

Is it easy to upgrade the ram of t42 or should I order 1 gb ram from IBM's original site...?

Either way, you'l have to install the RAM yourself unless you care to pay to have someone else install it. IBM Access should tell you _exactly_ how to do it, down to the dot... its the greatest gift to support ever created.

T42 ram upgrades are fairly easy. According to the Access IBM instructions, the easiest is through the panel on the bottom, where all you do is remove a screw and put in the ram. If you already upgraded through that, then you can look under the keyboard, where the factory ram is installed.

Ram for the 14.1" was a bitch. There was an orange plastic metallic conductor strip that connects to the keyboard that was cemented to the chasis that I could not for the life of me get around. I had to slightly bend it to get the chip in. Seriously, pain in the azz. I checked around - IBM's site and forums.. apparently they're not all made that way and this one was specificly just a faulty placement of the conductor strips. Was fortunate everything worked afterward.

IBM's manual is right on though, do as they say, you should be fine.. so long as you don't have that strip blocking entry.

EDIT: I need to make clear this installation was for the slot under the board.. in case some didn't know, and not the easy as pie panel on the under side.

you dont have to order ibm's ram, you can get whatever (as long as it's the right version of ram). i usually check www.dealram.com. i ordered more ram from ibm when i ordered my computer because they happened to be cheaper than i could find elsewhere, which was very surprising (though most likely due to the epp discount).

installing the ram is as easy as it can be. unscrew the one screw on the door, line up ram in slot, push it in at the correct angle, and click it in. reinsert door and screw.
it probably took me 30 seconds
