Review: Nate's Asus z70v (extensive, w/pics, 56k warning) - Page 2

Regarding your wirless card turning off when it goes into Suspend or Hibernate...The system has to turn that off or it can't go into either mode. There is no way for the system to turn it back on during the wake up process, you will have to continue to do that manually.

turning on wireless card manually? This was never an issue with my former IBM thinkpad.

Hmmm, you are correct. I was wrong. It should come back on when waking up, at least it does with the Intel PROSet wireless software. I have had other software where it did not.

nmcbean, what wireless software are you using?

even though these pictures turned out REALLY nice, i didnt think it was good to make the main review much longer lol... i suppose i could link the thumnails but thats a lot more work... if people want me to move them to the main erview i can but enjoy them here

pic1- high exposure with 2nd 3rd and 5th light on... 1st only is cd so is never on with others but is green... 4th never turns on (bluetooth)

pic2- overview... looks decent but the dust kinda ruins it

pic3- straight on look at it

pic4- perfect angle shot from the side to see the top LEDs / buttons

i updated it to the most recent drivers... still it stays off

This seems like a matter for technical support. Have you contacted your reseller?

My wireless does the same thing...I have to turn it on after the computer wakes up.

hey nate, great review!

I'm trying to decide between the Z71V and the Z70V, and the screen is one big factor. if you wouldn't mind, could you post some pics of the LCD screen in different lighting situations, i.e. inside dark, outside bright.

thanks!

Do you get more green dots by writing reviews?

The green dots are for people who "rep" you. In other words... if they like your post... they can click the "Check mark X" and give you + or - rep. You get + rep for haveing a cool name
post #36 of 51
Okay, thank you! I'll give you rep too!

as with all lcd screens, it only looks best at its natural resolution which is 1680x1050

it does let you go down to 1400x1050, 1280x1024 (would look worse because not widescreen), 1280x800 and all lower standard resolutions

sorry i havent gotten around to this... its just kinda hard to do that and i really havent taken it outside and used it

ill tell u about it tho... the screen is very nicely bright... when im working with text documents/ browsing the internet, i usually keep it on the 2nd to lowest setting... its more than enough brightness for when i am in a room at night and i only have a light or two on

i never really have it on its top brightness- it doesnt need to go up that high

that said i dont think you would have any problems with brightness... sorry about the pics, i thought i woudl be able to do it before, but its kinda hard and i dont wanna take my laptop outside to just take pics of it

Very nice review! And not too worry, definitely not too long!

I love how the the lights are different colours! I'm seriously considering this laptop for university...seems to have everything I wanted. The only thing I'm wary about is the heat you mentioned since I plan on using this on my lap quite a bit.

thanks! yeah i like the different colored lights too... its a small touch but it really makes a difference!

well as for heat, if you are just doing small tasks and can keep it at 800mhz it probably wont really bother you... but companies advise against keeping any laptop in your lap for long... after all they get pretty hot
