Hypersonic Aviator AX6 Review

Thread Starter
I know that the AX7 is out now, but have noticed more then a few threads requesting some input on the AX6. So here it is, my very first review ever, so feedback is appreciated, whether it be good or bad.

Specifications:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1GB PC3200
ATI Mobility 9600 Pro Turbo 128MB
60GB 7200RPM
2xDVD+RW
15" SXGA+ 1400x1050 High Contrast LCD Display
Built in Wireless A/B/G
56k Modem
10/100 LAN

For more detailed specs please refer to this link.

Pictures:
Now, I didn't get any sort of paint job, so this is the basic silver/grey. But you'll notice how much of a mirror like finish this paint job is. I am actually very pleased with how it looks, but am looking into ways to kind of "spruce" it up some to get some type of color into it without losing the mirror like finish.

Keyboard/Speakers
Card Reader/Headphone + Mic jack
Mirror/Reflective Finish
Screen

Performance:

I have yet to run any benchmarks on it, but here is a list of games that I have been playing on it and how it fared through them.

BF1942: Ran this smooth as silk on medium settings. I didn't try it on the highest settings it could run at because I really felt no need to because of how smooth it was running.

EQ2: Ran it on the "High" settings, for those unfamiluar with EQ2 settings you get to choose from "Minimal", "Low", "Medium", "High", "Highest". With these type of games memory comes into play more so then anything else. The 1GB here was more then enough to go through multi zones with no lag or hang ups. I was extremely pleased by how well it ran this game.

Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2:
Played with the highest settings for both of these games with no problems whatsoever. Ran everything fast and smooth.

Doom 3: Ran it on medium settings, everything was smooth as silk. Was extremely pleased because this was the game I was really worried about how it would run.

Functionality:
Over all I am very pleased with this machine. The 15.4" screen is wider then some laptops but smaller then others but it doesn't limit anything that I have yet to do on it.

The weight for a laptop such as this (a desktop replacement) is extremely light, it comes in just under 8 pounds. You'll see other machines similuar to this weighing 10+ pounds.

The noise level is viritually unnoticable. For how much power this laptop has it is extremely quiet. Noise isn't a huge issue with me, but I was pleasently surprised with just how noise "free" this machine is.

The Cons:
There are only a few small minor things that one might consider a con on this machine. The first being the speakers. They aren't the best, however a pair of headphones or some desktop speakers will do the trick. They aren't however the worst I have encountered either. I've used them on several occasions and they have worked just fine.

Another small con you might say is that it does get rather hot on the right palm rest after an hour or so. This isn't a huge issue mind you, just something that is worth mentioning.

Hypersonic Support:
Their sales and support (which is the only two I have ever contacted) is extremely helpful, friendly and fast to respond to any and all questions I have ever had. They are more then willing to sit down and go over things to help you get a better understanding. They are by far one of the best companies I have ever encounteredd that do this.

Final Conclusions:
Although at first I had my doubts when switching over to a desktop replacement laptop, I have been very pleased with the outcome. I sold my custom built SLI rig to go with something more mobile, and I hoped I would still be able to play some games. After some time with the AX6 all my worries I now know were for nothing. This machine has handled every game I have thrown at it with ease. Granted some of those games aren't at the same settings that I used with my rig.

If you are looking for a stylish, quiet, light, gaming desktop replacement then look no further then the AX6.

Did a good job on the review! I like it for the fact that it opens up people's exposure to the AX6 series. Right now, we don't have a lot of reviews, so it is always good to see the different ones that are available.

Don't forget to follow the links in the "Thank you for your review" topic at the top of the threads in the review area.

Again, good review.

Cool deal. Glad it worked out for you. What does the t-shirt look like?
T-shirt is plain black and has hypersonic written in silver on it. looks cheezy but it's free and I like it!

this may be one of the ugliest notebooks i've ever seen. i prefer the ferrrari 4005 way more.

I looked into the acer ferrari, but decided the look was way too childish for a man to use. I didn't want to look like a kid with a Hotwheel while I was quoting a client. Or a wannabe racecar driver. And I do love Ferrari's and I watch racing, I just would not what their advertising on my notebook unless they were paying me for it. It's great for fan boys, but not for the rest of the world.

Stick with the Hypersonic. I'm getting the MX6. Go for what's under the hood, not fashion victim Paris Hilton wannabe's.

Should look under that hood again

Turion chip nothing childish about it. Price with what you get for the $$ not bad either.

Not bashing Hyper but Ferrari looks good for its class. If and when Hyper starts getting Turion then it would be no question.

And yes apparently the logo is a sticking point with alot of the acer fans but the machine is a hot even without the wheels.

The only thing I dont like is thats you are dealing with resellers not the company directly and its pretty much a sealed deal as far as customizing. There is good and ah not so good when researching it.
