Hi guys,

I'm toying with the idea of selling my 6000 laptop. It's fully loaded, and only about a month old -- but past the 21 day Return policy.

Anyone care to guess what I might get for it?

Here's what it's got:

--- Inspiron 6000 (6000d) ---

* Intel® Pentium® M Processor 760 (2 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
* Microsoft Windows XP Professional - For networking with work or school
* 15.4 inch UltraSharp WSXGA+ LCD Panel
* Memory 1GB DDR2 SDRAM 2 Dimms
* Video Card 128MB DDR ATI's MOBILITY™ RADEON X300 PCI Express x16 Graphics
* Hard Drive 80GB Hard Drive
* Combo/DVD+RW Drives 8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer write capability
* 3 Yr Limited Warranty, At-Home Service and Tech Support plus Nights and Weekends
* Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915 Internal Wireless (802.11 a/b/g, 54Mbps)
* Bluetooth Wireless Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal (2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate)
* 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery (80 WHr)

Please let me know what price you think it would get on eBay or wherever...

Thanks!

Just thinking about it at this point (not sure yet if I'll actually do it or not). I really do love the 6000, so it's a tough call. But I've thought about getting a 9300, and if I do I won't need the 6000 any more. I figured if I had an idea of what I could get for the 6000, it might help me to decide what to do.

How's everything going with your setup? And what DPI have you decided on? (I'm still on 96 myself)

I'm at 120, and it's working out okay for my needs.

I might try 120 again too, just for kicks.

By the way, what % is your TextZoom (for FireFox) set on?

Anyone have any thoughts on what price this unit can be sold for?

whatever you paid for plus $300 more. assuming you used the 40% off or the 750 coupon
post #8 of 32
If you used a coupon, you'll get more than you paid. If not, I doubt you will get as much as you paid. I'd say the system could sell for around $1200-1500, depending on how stupid the buyer is.
post #9 of 32
HELL NO, are you nuts?! $1200-$1500?!?! this system has 2GHz chip in it with 1GB memory, it's fully loaded. you can easily get $1800 for it. i sold one with similar spec. but with 1.6GHz, 1 year warranty, 6cell, 8x dvd-r, bluetooth, wireless g, 1GB one stick of kingston and standard screen for $1400. you should definitely get the 9300, it's a beauty!! i'm thinking of getting one but i'm too cheap hehe but if you do get it dont expect making too much money on it cause it's already too expensive. and yes i did use the 750$ off coupon on that 6000d, but too bad most of the cash is already spent on a trip and 600m

btw, dont make such a low offer like everyone suggest, not every idiot knows about the $750 weekly coupon

I keep bouncing back and forth between 120 and 130. For most sites 130 looks great (Yahoo, for example), but other sites are totally mucked up at anything over 110ish.

I guess I was wrong. I didn't realize that there are a lot of people out there who do not know about the coupons and stuff. It's highly possible to get $1800 or more for it.
post #14 of 32
If you plan to sell it on ebay you won't get close to that much. The ebay market is pretty much saturated with people buying systems with these coupons and then reselling them trying to get a profit. These are also brand new systems. I'd find another avenue to sell if I were you.
post #15 of 32
considering its already past its 21 I dont see how 1800 dollars is possible at this point I think 1200-1500 is much more realistic. This is my honest opinion considering before the big tax addon i used to buy these things and sell em.
post #16 of 32
You might be able to get $1800 if the purchaser isn't so bright. $1200-$1500 is more realistic. You could always take a look at ebay or dell outlet and see what prices they are going for.
post #17 of 32
hmmm lets see, dell is selling this beast for around 2k PLUS "TAX" for the one who isnt so lucky AND handling fee. with everything counted this laptop is well over $2300 and you are telling me you cant get $1800 out of it? thats $500 LESS for a NEW laptop with 3 year onsite warranty. but if you wanna sell it on ebay then you better becareful cause it's too much to risk if you dont do it right, then again youre probably a weathly guy so who cares right?
seriously though, ask the pro to help you out cause i would hate to see you lose the laptop AND the money. btw, i didnt sell my laptop on ebay, i never sell anything over $200 on ebay, i guess i'm a chicken

I've decided to keep the 6000. At least for a while, anyway. It wasn't about the resale price, it was that I decided to hold off on buying the 9300 for a while.

Just as an FYI: after tax I paid over $2,000 for this 6000... and yes, I used a coupon. It really is fully loaded. The price without the coupon? Over $3,000.

I wasn't expecting to make money on the resale -- but there's no way I'd sell this thing for $1200-$1500 when it's only 1 month old and in brand new condition.

Oh, and for those of you that think everyone in the world knows about Dell coupons? Think again.

Anyway, thanks for the help everyone!
post #19 of 32
hmm, if you dont like the 6000d then i wouldnt suggest to hold on to it because even though it's fully loaded, it's still a 6000d which it's consider a lower end laptop. look at the base price on it (i6000), $649-$749. if you decided to keep it for over 6 months, your 2000$ laptop will become $1500. i have no clue why you spent $2000 on it consider the 9300 is almost the same price but with much better screen, and not to mention the video card!
post #20 of 32
if i were going to sell my 6000 and upgrade I would not get the 9300, I would just spring a couple more bucks and get the XPS2.

While the 9300 is great, the XPS2 you can get for a few more if you play the game at the right time.

Also do you live in Canada? Cauz 2K for those specs is kinda steep.
