Hi People

Just want to ask I am thinking of buying another Dell Notebook, for general use, (Internet, Photoshop,Dreamweaver,FlashMX2004) Maybe the odd game. I have A Dell Precision M50 and was wondering is the X300 on par with the Quadro 700go. I have decided on the the Inspiron 600 (has IEE1394 as standard).

Thanks

Jonny

M50

2 Ghz (northwood)
1 GB DDR (266)
40 Gb (5,400)
Quadro 700 (64mb)
UXGA UltraSharp
DVD-R (x2)

Nearly forgot
There seems to be a £300 Different between Integrated graphics (£469) or X300 (£769) on e-bay, and am thinking of the Intergrated one, can I put in a X300 or higher at a later date as £300 is a little steep (for casual gamer)

The x300 will be about on par with the Quadro 700, maybe a little bit better (the 128MB version anyway). No you cannot upgrade the i6000 (with integrated graphics) down the road, because it uses the Intel 915GM chipset that does not support a PCI-E or AGP graphics solution (the board will not even have a slot for one). For any type of future upgradeability hopes you must go with the i6000d, which at least has the 915PM chipset and a PCI-E slot.

I recommend Dell outlet over eBay.... prices for Dell laptops on eBay are considerably more than similar spec on outlet, thats if you find a good deal with a coupon..... i managed to use a US coupon for mine in the UK.

Are you seriously considering a Dell? The X300 is pretty bad, and its already being pushed out; you can get plenty of nice, mobile notebooks with the X600 installed, and the performance gains will definitely help future-proof it.

The 128mb x300 isn't that slow, especially since it overclocks almost to x600 speeds.

If you're willing to overclock both cards, the X300 gets around 1700, and the X600 gets close to 2200. Just so you know...

* This is assuming you're not doing extreme overclocking, since I remember somebody getting 2000 or so with the X300.
