i just got my lappy and its obvious i dont want it to get innundated with spyware/adware, etc...so what is your favorite/non ad ware file sharing (music, movies, etc) program that i can download and not have to worry about?

I like Ares. It's usually fast and reliable, and there's lots of variety. I also like LimeWire, but I'm pretty sure that includes spyware and adware.

ares has no adware?

LimeWire Pro. No adware or spyware whatsoever. Pro version does not include spyware. Non-pro versions do.

I prefer Azureus, it means you got to do a bit of searching for torrents, but no adware

Shareaza (open-source, free, no spyware/adware) either that or WinMX - though there are those that don't share my opinion. Do a search on limewire or shareaza.. there have been several threads on this in the past.

Emule the source of all. All files that exit are there. it is the Source. No otehr network has that much.

For real p2p get hamchi .. super program

or for other p2p, learn about newsgroups www.newzbin.com

ares, azureus, and imesh

ares-works great all around, not as many files though
azureus-great for big files, have to look for torrents
imesh-kinda slow from my experience, you can use imesh and gnutella network

I used Ares Lite and loved it. Then for some reason, one day, I began to have trouble connecting and files wouldn't connect to download. It was a great, spyware-free program though. I've heard eMule is wonderful if you're patient and are one to leave the PC on for continual periods of time.

I use LimeWire and BitComet for torrents. BitComet probably isn't the best torrent client but it has everything integrated and it's worked well for me.

Your ISP blocked your Ares P2P ports, most likely.

I like Kazaa lite although I don't know if it houses any adware/spyware. I don't think it does because I run scanners weekly and it hasn't caught anything yet other than those friggin mediaplex cookies.

Actually, the Ares problem is often solved by downloading the latest build from the website and reinstalling.
