My T40 and Wireless PCI Card

Hi all.

I'm sure someone knows the answer to this:

I recently purchased a T40 via epp and it came with an 802.11b mini-pci card. My question is simply this:

Can I use any brand mini-pci wireless to jump to 802.11g or do I need something specifically from IBM? I would assume any card would do, but it seems to me I heard (read) something about IBM specific being required.

Thanks for any advice.

NO. You cannot use just any card. IBM specifcally locks you from using non approved wifi cards in the BIOS. The laptop will not boot if you use one. There is a long thread on this over at thinkpads.com. You have two options:

1. Buy an IBM wifi card
2. Download a hacked BIOS

That's kinda what I thought. I'll check out that thread.

Thanks,
