Alright, since a lot of people are upgrading their memory via Newegg or whatnot, and since there are many "omg my memory fails" posts, my suspicion is that there are many many more people that are perfectly satisfied with their memory than those that post theirs had problems.

So instead of the potential misinformation people might gather from reading the various bad memory posts around here I decided to start a poll to find out what memory people are buying and whether they passed MemTest or not.

Now on with the Poll:

First the limitations:
1. Only vote if you have run MemTest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/)
2. Only vote if you are using 1GB sticks (this is what most people are interested in buying)
3. If your brand isn't listed (Samsung, Transcend, Gigaram, Kingmax, etc) choose "Other" and post what brand it is and your results (errors or no errors). Only 10 options for polls makes me a saaaaaaaad panda.

Technically, no one should have errors because they should run memtest when they buy new RAM and keep sending back the ones that fail.

I have 2x Transcend 1GB modules for my XPS 2. The memory chips are made by Infineon on my sticks.

I finished running Memtest from a boot CD last night after letting it run 5 hours 13 minutes, for a total of 5 complete passes and change. Memtest did not find any errors.

yeah, you forgot Transcend Ram when you started the poll, so most people who bought from Newegg are going to be in the other category. I have a Kingston Value and a Transcend, 13 passes with memtest, no errors on either.

Yeah I just figured I'd put in the biggest name brands for the main options and the lesser known brands as Other, since I'm only allowed 10 poll options.

Need more votes, cmon people

Well I ran two 1 GB sticks for 36 passes, (33hrs), with no errors.

Cool what brand? Vote!

Ugh, I clicked the wrong button; I meant to click the option for Crucial, no errors, but clicked the one for 1+ errors....

I only thought I could vote if I had one stick of 1GB? I have two...

Its Transcend.

Transcend "Elpida". I got 54 errors in the first 30 seconds of memtest. It's going back tomorrow. I've got another 1 gig of transcend being delivered today. I'm hoping for a different chip manufacturer.

How do you know its Elpida?

Usually one can tell because it says "Elpida" on the chips.

Well...at least you didn't waste much time in finding out!
I have the Transcend with Elpida too...I got lucky, I guess.

2 sticks of 1GB is fine... I just said only vote if you are using 1GB modules... i.e. either one 1GB module or two 1GB modules. So of course you can vote

Kingston is looking pretty good with 5 happy campers and only 1 bad one. But it would be silly to draw any conclusions until we get a lot more votes. So tell your friends to check this thread out

I passed up an $83 1GB Kingston module (new) on an eBay no reserve auction today because they were some no-name business and if the memory had errors I probably wouldn't be able to return it.

So do you think its wise to eat the extra $20-25 to buy from Newegg to be able to return it?

Good point, and YES. I never believed that there could be so many memory problems until I started seeing the posts on this forum...after seeing all this, NO WAY would I buy memory without a lifetime warranty.

But the question is, if you buy RAM, will the major RAM manufacturers count failing Memtest with, like, just 1 error as grounds for sending you a new stick? And if you're Canadian, will they take back their stick of RAM and send you a new stick at no cost to you?

And what happened to that guy who had some Memtest errors, but the Kingston support guy e-mailed him back and told him that it's too bad because his stick of RAM wasn't certified to run in an i9300?

have Kingston branded with the lifetime guarantee... i just had a bad stick but they said we'll send ya two new ones from the same batch... so as far as i'm concerned, no errrors...
