Tack on another Ferrari 4000 owner.

Thread Starter
My Ferrari 4005 arrived yesterday, and overall I am very pleased.

Now all I have to do is wait for my copy of WinXP X64 to show up before I can really make it mine.

My personal mini-review:

Pros:
Screen: Marvelous, especially since I've been living on a 15" 1024x768 for the last 2 years.
Speed: By the numbers, it's 400MHz slower than my last laptop... sure doesn't feel like it is, given every other part of the laptop actually is faster.
Looks: You either like it or you don't... I uh... do.
Keyboard: It's different, but fits very nicely for me.
Battery life: considering what Acer has put under the hood, uh... so to speak the battery life is quite good. I'm already seeing 2 1/2 hours, and after the battery sets in a little, I'll probably see close to 3. After that, I may work on the voltage mod. Not sure yet.
Connectivity: Acer has outfitted this laptop with a bunch of usable ports. Namely, 4 USB and the DVI-D port.
Slot-load-CD/DVD drive: I think this will end up being quite nice, although it makes some pretty crazy noises compared to other slot loaders I've worked with in the past.
5-in-1 Memory Card Reader: It's just nice that it's there. It's fast too.

Cons:
Screen: One dead/stuck red pixel out of the box. Thankfully it's toward the lower right side so I don't notice it very much. Especially compared to my previous laptop having a stuck green pixel almost smack dab in the middle of the screen. I had hoped I was leaving those little bastards behind, but oh well. According to NewEgg.com Acer will only warranty it if there are 7 or more dead pixels on the screen.
Included Mouse: I think like everyone else, this mouse is just not up to the standards that were expected from the rest of the system. Very laggy, sometimes acts like it is going to clear up and run smooth, but doesn't. Some times it will stop working all together for 5 to 10 seconds.
OS: I guess a minor thing, didn't come with a 64 bit OS out of the box. ???

The touch pad does get warm after some extended use, but it doesn't bother me personally.
The cooling system's fan(s?) do run all the time, but not at full speed. Compared to my previous laptop, a Toshiba with 2 CPU cooling fans, I'd say that there is a chance that the fans in the Ferrari are a tad bit quiter than the Toshiba when both are at max load. The Toshiba had the advantage of turning the fans completely off when the temps were low enough.

A single run of 3DMark05 showed around 2300.
3DMark03 got 5981.

I'm happy right now, and hope to be even happier when WinXP X64 shows up.

I just wanted to show off how glossy the carbon-fiber lid is. You really do have to see it in person to appreciate it. It looks like Auto quality clear coat to me.

And here are a few shots that impressed me about how Acer packed the laptop in the box.

Nice pics, duude...

Think the lappie looks like a previous model of ferrari put insidde a ibm thinkpad =D
..and the casing materialwise is a tad similar...like that..alot...tho dont fancy anything glossy on the outside of notebooks and nice that axer havent put too many ports on the backside of the book...too bad that almost no manufactorer comes close to the thinkpad's keyboard-build&qaulity...and dont understand why why why, oh why more manufactores dont include a simple trackpointing device on their models.. =(

But it seems to be a sweet lappie and I'm impressed with it's batteritime, considering it's CPU/GPU and screen..=)

Hope you'll have much fun and keep it in your possesion fot a long time, duude..=)

oh and Sarc just because the clock speed of the AMD processor is a bit less then your other laptop doesnt mean its slower. Each processor goes by its own scale. A 1.4 Mhz p-m is not equivilant to a 1.4 MHz AMD. So you can not judge processors by just their clock speed. There are many other things to go by. ^_^ just giving you a little info because I used to think the same thing untill I became mofe familiar with these forums/
