Rethinking my XPS G2 Purchase. - Page 2

I liked the rabid squirrel, it knows just how I feel.

Yeah, if I wasnt interested in the XPS Gen2 I'd probably choose a Sager (Clevo knockoff) but I'd go through PCTorque or Xtremenotebooks.com to buy it. They have high customer satisfaction ratings unlike Sager itself. Basically just choose the one that gave me best price.

Actually, the only reason I'm interested in Dell, besides the fact I have used/own them before, is the $750 rebate and the 12% employee discount I get from my Dell and my employer. If PCtorque or Xtreme could do that it'd be no contest.

Dell can be a pain sometimes, but I have had pretty good experiences with them. I just had my CDRW/DVD replaced (old one was faulty), and in all the emails they referred to it as either DVD-rom (exact case used), or CD-RW, never CDRW/DVD like it is. Good thing is that it arrived 3 days later!

Well it's Monday, and although I am a little calmer and my blood pressure probably is considerably lower I am no closer to deciding what I am going to do when sales opens then I was on Saturday when I finally gave up on Dell customer care (we can add that one right in there with Jumbo shrimp and military intelligence.)

Oh well, I have a few more hours to decide.

that really sux man, if you are worried about not getting that coupon back, then go to a kiosk and tell them what happend, they can probably help you out, they will almsot deffently ask you for your cart login and pw, so they can verify that you did have it at that price, so make sure you bring your login info

I am not so much worried about that, as the fact that I have had to waste hours jumping through hoops to resolve a problem that developed because customer care appearantly misunderstood a simple question.

As long as I am griping, their 10am central opening time sucks as well, at least for me as I am on the east coast and work 7pm to 7am.

It goes on and on.

Today after about 45 minutes on hold I finally got to talk to a sales person, and after putting me on hold for another 10 minutes she came back on the line and said she reinstated my orders (one for the computer and one for the printer) with the same discounts in place.

Great I thought, so I ran out the door for work. Well just a little while ago I pull up my Dell account for work and low and behold 6 orders have been added for identical laptops and 4 of them have been canceled, leaving 2 still active and 4 orders for the printer had been added although all of them have been canceled.

This has been a total cluster F#$@, these people are total morons who cant seem to get the simpliest of things correct.

This will sound really cliched, but I feel your pain, man. Dell is second perhaps only to Dell Financial Services in terms of sheer incompetence, evil and general suckitude.

Next time you get on the phone, IMMEDIATELY ask to speak to a manager. Don't even bother with the first person you get. Also, send an email and CC: Dell's board of directors as well as Michael Dell himself.

Be calm and precise in your email and don't get personal. Let them know how frustrating this has been and wait for their response.

Yeah, stop talking to the sales people. Manager/Supervisor and no one less in authority than that. You just need one person to fix the entire thing. In this case its just a matter of getting the right info into their PC order system. Apparently all these sales people keep adding and not subtracting previous goofs.

The way I see it you only have two other choices than speaking to one person like I mentioned above.

1)Cancel any and all orders with your name and info and just walk away.

2)Cancel any and all orders with your name and info and walk away for a couple weeks and then come back like you were a brand new customer and start all over. By then their system should be totally clear of anything you have done/said/ordered to it. Basically it should be purged completely.

I'm thinking that if you still want to buy a laptop today (or this week) its probably better if you go to someone else. Call it bad luck, bad karma, or whatever but the signs and portents all look bad for you and Dell. Its kinda like a sign from above saying. "Dont buy from Dell".

Another thought...

If you decide you still want to buy from Dell still and give it another chance... maybe try one of those Dell kiosks. At least you can talk to a live individual and explain the monumental screw up you have been put through. Since he/she puts the orders in from the kiosk you can stand there and watch them. Hopefully watch him/her clear all previous orders first. This suggestion violates my first paragraph advice though so I dont think its going to really help much.

Well when I got home from work this morning someone from Dell was in the process of leaving a message on my answering machine. I picked up and talked to them and got everything straightened out.

They ended up not only upgrading my shipping to next day air (athough the cancelation did move my ship date from the 8th to the 11th) but are giving me the printer (not the standard, I upgraded to the multifuction one) for free. Not much considering what I went through over the last few days but I just wanted to get it over and done with, and as I said I do not want freebees (although I wont turn them down) but instead want to have at least some faith in the company I am buying from and I have to say having them call me certainly helped with that.

BTW, thanks to everyone here for putting up with my ramblings while I got my order worked out. I fell much better now!

At least Dell do give you a few extras when they muck up. Other companies like HP probably wouldn't.

Wow, in just a few hours my laptop went from kitting to boxing, and completely skipped building and testing.

Does anyone want to bet that I get a box full of unassembled components?
StarKiller,
Thats great news! Would have been nice if they had thrown some rebates at you for your time as well as the other feebies but at least they gave you something. I hope you get it quickly and without any further problems. Keep us informed of the progress and how it is when you receive it.

I got home from work today and found an email waiting for me telling me that my IXPS G2 shipped yesterday (Friday) and should be here Monday as they upgraded my shipping to next day, and as luck would have it I am off Monday and Tuesday.

There is one minor glitch, and that is that my 2GB of OCZ RAM, D-Link DGL-4300 wireless gaming router, and Spire Pacific breeze laptop cooler are not scheduled to arrive from Newegg until Tuesday or Wed. Oh well, I guess I'll survive.
Thats great, StarKiller! I got one in production as well. Scheduled to ship August 12th. I snagged one of those 40% Dell discount coupons.

I been eying that same cooler as you. I'm trying to decide if I should get it or the Vantec2. They both have great things said about them. I wish they had them down at the local CompUSA so I could get a actual hands on look at them. Pics arent helping me enough to decide. I guess if I want one here when my lappy arrives I should order next week.

Yeah I used a 40% off as well, I had looked at other rigs but that coupon (and the Pentium M paired with a Go 6800 Ultra) made this an unbeatable deal.

Well I would suggest you order TODAY! My laptop was scheduled to ship on the 11th but it left early (ironically Monday was the day the originally ordered laptop was supposed to ship but instead I will be recieving this one on that day.)

As for the cooler, I figured I just had to have it as it looks like it was made for the IXPS, and with it only costing $14.99 at Newegg.com how could I go wrong?
Well, this gave me an idea to try chat for today and pretend that I wanted to return my laptop. I wasn't thinking of returning it, I just wanted a coupon. I only got $50 instead of $100, but I'm not complaining. I think I'm gonna buy the Kensington Contour backpack for 13 bucks total (coupon).
Well starkiller, looks like things turned out alright for you. I ordered my xps and it was slated to be sent out on the 12th but yesterday it went from nothing in the in-production section to boxing. So hey hopefully I get mine next week.

Yeah, mine went from kitting to boxing overnight and then from there it went directed to shipped.
