Just Installed XP - Need Help

I just installed XP without any issues and I'm starting to load the drivers on my machine.

First I installed the Intel Mobile Chipset, but about 90% of the way there, the computer asks for the following file (usbehci.sys) and then asks for the path. I can't find this anywhere in the driver folder that was created.

Then, when I tried installing the notebook system software, after the install, I get a message that says that my computer doesn't support this operating sytem!

What should I do?

I've already installed the chipset first, what do I do to reverse this (uninstall and reinstall) XP Pro?

I also noticed that my computer doesn't recognize anything as USB 2.0. Man, this sucks, I'm completely lost right now. Help!

I dont think it matter if you install NSS first or Chipset. I personally has format my Xps2 many time and always intall the Chipset first and NSS last. No error what so ever....

That's the thing, I have installed XP on other systems and never had issues installing drivers. I don't understand why my computer isn't recognizing the drivers made for it.

Should I call tech support directly on this? I'm also reinstalling XP Pro as I type this.

I find this order wotks well

1.Install windows and SP2
2.Install the Dell notebook system software
3.Install chipset
4.Video Driver
5.Audio Driver
6.Wireless and internet conection goodies
Do a Disk defrag then the rest of the drivers in any order.Just make sure you install anti virus software before you connect to the internet or connect and go straight to your antivirus download page and install. And after you instal all your drivers it is good practice to defrag inbetween large program installs it does make a difference in my opinion it seems to make the pc run quicker after all programs are installed

I reinstalled XP, and I tried installing the NSS first but I got the same error. I think I'm going to have to call Dell Support on this one. There's got to be something that I'm doing wrong on this.

If anyone else has suggestions, please post them. TIA!

try disconnecting everything from your computer - especially usb devices. i am guessing that is what the usbehci.sys is.

Dell Support is trying to tell me that the reason NSS won't install is b/c I am trying to install it on XP Pro when my computer came with XP Home. This doesn't make any sense since the drivers specifically say Windows XP. There is no place to chose Home over Professional for the NSS drivers on the Isp. 9300 support page. God, this is annoying.

Use my procedure:

It will work flawlessly...

First make sure you install all default drivers (keep for now the bluetooth ones, etc. that are distributed by Windows XP).
Once you PC is working good, then try to update whatever drivers you want...

I'm also downloading SP2 right now. Dell is sending me the disc that has all of my system files on it and XP home so if I need to reinstall everything again, I can. I'm hoping after SP2 downloads, I can install all of the drivers properly. I'll post what happens.

Why don't you do a slipstream cd? Is really easy and it will help you having everything installed in one shot... Much better then first installing XP then updating to SP2, it will mess things.
ALWAYS do a clean install, from a slipstreamed CD (procedure below):

If you think is to complicated, you could try nLite:

Have fun.

Well guys, it has everything to do with installing SP2. After Installing it, I was able to install the drivers properly.
