Sentia Wireless Problem

I got my Sentia based on recommendations from people on this forum. I've had it for a few weeks and love it. My one gripe is the wireless connection. I have not gotten good signals even if I'm in the room with the source. I'm using the prowireless 2915 and I've set the power management to use maximum power in hopes that would correct the problem. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can set up my wireless card for better performance?

Thank you

If your wireless access point allows you to switch channels try different settings. I managed to increase my Sentia's wireless card from worthless to barely useable by altering the channel.

However it's still a noticable improvement if I switch to a PCMCIA wireless card. I tried my wireless card in a friends laptop, it worked fine for him. His had both wireless antenna connections maybe that was the difference.

i had wireless problems (weak connection if any) with my sentia and my netgear wireless router. i finally decided to try a new router (linksys) and lo and behold...my sentia connects wirelessly!! ive noticed as well that my sentia plays better at my friends' places who have linksys routers as oppossed to netgear ones.

Any issues with a Belkin router? I have actually noticed my mom's laptops having problems with our router.. Her work laptop is an IBM with an Intel wireless card (not sure which model) and she usually gives up and connects with ethernet to avoid those drops. Also, her personal laptop is an HP (not sure which card in that one) but has dropped out once in awhile as well. I have a Belkin PCI card in my carputer, but haven't had any issues with connecting to my router or others. Rebooting the router is a good place to start if you have problems, and channels could be the problem if there is interference. My router has a 'Protected Mode':

Protected Mode
NOTE: In most situations, best performance (throughput) is achieved with Protected Mode OFF. If you are operating in an environment with HEAVY 802.11b traffic or interference, best performance may be achieved with Protected Mode ON.

If your router has a similar mode, I would try that. The Sentia could be pumping out radiation in the 2.4GHz range that bleeds out the signal. Also, is this problem happening when on battery, on AC power, or both? I can check my Sentia with a frequency counter to see if it's spewing out interference in this range. Maybe some shielding would do the trick if that's the case..

in the past month i tried a Linksys, Dlink, Netgear and SMC routers and they all dropped connection...then i went out and bought a Belkin Router and it hasnt given me any problems...so far its been better than all the rest =D but i'm still not happy because i'm in the same room and sometimes i get 36 MBPS and sometimes i get 1 but still doesnt drop connection so thats a good thing

It is a hit or miss from what I have seen reading through all the boards. I have been blessed with one that works all the time. *knocks wood* My Dell however I went through netgear, linksys, d-link, all not working more than a few days. Then I got a complete Motorola setup and it worked perfectly. Good lucks guys.

I also had problems with the Intel card. Here's how I solved it. I uninstalled Intel's PRO wireless management software, then reinstalled ONLY the drivers. In other words, I turned over the wireless management to Windows. Everything works like a dream now. Since this, I have upgraded from the 2100BG to the 2915ABG. Again, I installed only the drivers and let Windows manage the connection. Again, it works great.

Now that I've had my Sentia for almost a week, I've been on wireless literally the entire time. I use it in my room mostly, about 12 feet from the router (Belkin). So far I have never had a drop out like what others have experienced, but it could be because I changed the settings for Power Management on the wireless card, as AW suggests. I guess this should be the first step you should try, if you already haven't done so. It could be killing my battery at an extremely fast rate, but when you're copying files over wireless, you can't afford a drop every so often.
