It was like an early Christmas today.....

First delivery from Santa (FedEx) was my order from Etymotic Research, a set of ER-4P earphones.

Later in the day around 1330est, after a very pleasent phone conversation with UPS about having my package delivered earlier (do to a trip out of town this weekend), I get a knock at the door and you got it it was Santa dressed in a UPS outfit. And in his hand was a beautiful brown box with my new 5680v. Me very first personal laptop (other than works). Happy Dance!!! Happy Dance!!

After jumping up and down with joy, I settled down and opened the package. Very well packed my I add. Inside were all the goodies:

1)5680v w/ 15" UXGA wide angle
2)60gig @7200
3)2xDVD-RW/CD-RW
4)8XDVD
5)Second battery for 2nd bay
6)Spare primary batt. and spare 2nd bay batt.
7)Spare power cable
8)Blue Tooth
9)Internal wireless
10) Windows XP Pro
11)Standard Grey/Blue color
12)1gig Ram
13)4yr warranty

So far no complaints at all.

The unit came so fast I wasn't really prepared. Ordered Tue. the 4th and it showed up today Fri. 7th w/ 2nd day shipping. Now that's fast turn around time.

There are no dead/stuck pixels that I can see. That was my biggest concern.

The only thing that I didn't expect, was how small the screen looks at 1600x1200. Maybe I'm just not use to it or I need glasses. Otherwise the screen looks amazing.

I haven't had the chance to do anything else with the thing yet (still backing for the weekend). But from what I have done this thing is GREAT.

I tell you what, Clevo/Sager really knows how to build a mean laptop. And PCT, there is no comparison when it comes to the service they provide. Fast, Courteous, and everything else you can ask for in a company. Those guys ROCK!!!!

Thanks again for everyone on this forum for helping me make the right decision on buying a Sager from PCT. With all the help, great info., and for some the great sales pitches, Clevo/Sager/PCT should put you on the payroll.

Thanks again everyone!!! and Happy Holidays!!!

Sorry to keep posting on my own thread.....
But I do have a question.

Is there anything I should do when first using the 5680? I mean do I need to prep anything before using it, or do I need to format, reboot, flash, etc. anything?

As you can probably tell by the question and the manner in which it was delivered, that I have not a clue abot computers let alone a laptop. I'm afraid that if I do something or even worse not do something the unit would explode and die, and that would be a $3000+ mistake I don't want to make.

Please any advice would be very much appreciated.

And here are a few nanas for those who are still waiting for their units to arrive

Congrats! I know you must be feeling pretty good!

You probably already know this -- but you might wanna set the display fonts to large. The default setting is small. (I think).

I'm running W2k. The settings are changed in the Display Properties setup.
[Display Properties -> Settings Tab -> Advanced -> General Tab -> Font Size (pull down menu)]

XP shouldn't be too different. If so, someone with XP will give directions.

Just go in the bios tell it to boot from the cd first... then put in Windows XP/2000 installlation disc and it will auto boot from it... follow the on screen instructions

Thanks guys/gals it's a great system. I haven't been able to turn away from it since I got it. I had to ask my girlfriend to finish packing for b/c I couldn't step away from this thing, I'm hooked man....you gotta help man....please.

I do have another question though. How would I check to see if the internal wireless is working or even there. I placed the disk that came with the unit marked 802.11g Wi-Fi Driver. And when I hit the icon called PRISMSTA a screen popped up that read "THere are no wireless adapters installed,so the Configuration Utilty, will quit."

I don't have a wireless network hooked up at my house (where I am tryig it now) so that may be the problem.

I'm about the step out of the house for the weekend and would like to take my new toy with me (somewhat setup).

Thanks for the info. So far its helped a lot.

mine should be here any minute.............

Bok your wireless adaptor might be turned off. Use the F7 function key to turn it off and on. You can tell if it is working if the right-most LED at the bottom of the screen is orange.

/Doh - I just realised you have the 5680 - not the 8890. I think they work the same but just check your user manual.

To turn on the internal wireless you hold down the Fn key and press the F11 key. You can tell it's on when the Caps lock led is flashing.

Well, I've had my new laptop now for a week and I still find new things to be impressed by everyday. One being the screen, everytime I flip it open and turn it on I am simply amazed at how nice it looks (still no dead/stuck pixels I guess all those squashed nanas worked).

I got quite a few looks when I whipped it out (the laptop for those w/ obscene minds). Then I proceded to squash everyones beliefs (just by turning it on and running a few things) that their Dells, Sonys, Gateways, even their once coveted Alienwares were the best laptops out there. It was rather amusing.

The only real problem that I've had so far, which I am not even sure can be traced to the laptop itself, was trying to install an Echo Indigo card. Everything went fine w/ the installation of the drivers and all but when I tried to actully listen to something through the card all I heard was this high pitched whining/gargling sound w/ the slight background of what I was trying to listen to in the first place.

I spoke to the tech support at Echo and they say I may have to upgrade my Windows and the few things that Sager put out. Like the touchpad and the Audio.

Has anyone had the same experince w/ the Echo Indigo doing the same thing or did it work fine out of the box?

Also has anyone downloaded the updates from Sager? Was it difficult to do and did it work well after installing?

Well thanks all for letting me rant on about my new toy.
And here's a few more nanas for those still waiting for their units (Hey it worked for me)

Glad to see you got your lappy Bok. Particularly as you were sweating on it before you get the tracking number for yourself (take care where ever they send you my friend).

As to other laptop owners, I know what you mean. They really get pissed when you fire up your Sager - "It does what? It has what sort of CPU and video card in it?" .

Sorry I can't help you with the audio stuff as I don't have the card.

congrats dude
