Sager 3880 -- very low volume

Hello--
I would appreciate suggestions on this-- my 3880 has a very low sound level, I mean, I have to strain to hear it. Music is very low, and voices in games are too low to understand. I set the volume control in windows to maximum, and also set the Realtek audio manager volume dial to maximum. I've pushed <Fxn>F8 all the way, and made sure that <Fxn>F5 is toggled "On". It didn't help. Very frustrating.

Does anybody know what's wrong, or how to fix this? I don't think it could be normal! I haven't read of any other 3880 owners complaining of this problem. Other than this the 3880 is great.

Thanks.

Best,
Walter.

I have the same problem when using headphones or the laptop speakers. Of course with external speakers that have a volume knob, I'm fine. I have my eyes open for a solution, but haven't found one. I'll post back if I do, because when you're driving in the car for 4 hours and can't even hear a DVD with headphones on it's frustrating.

I just got the 3880 and I'm having the same problem. I can understand if the speakers aren't that loud, but even at max volume, it is hard to hear even with headphones. This is a big prolem for me... what I don't understand is why so few people have a problem with this. I got this computer for mostly things that require good video and good audio. What's the point of super nice HD sound if I can barely hear it? Is this a common trait amongst all 3880's or is this just a few of us? I called Sager about that and I'm waiting for them to call back, I'll report back after I hear from them. Matt at Discountlaptops says I'm the first he's heard that complaint from, but it seems like a huge problem for a laptop.

Please let me know if you have a 3880 and are having the same problem. Thanks!

I have the master volume all the way up and just adjust the wave and I can get it pretty loud (louder then my liking) with my headphones.

Hey WJH, I think we have something wrong with our computers, because there is no way they can be this quiet and nobody else complain about it. thelastone says it's pretty loud with headphones. Also, I called SAGER and they said nobody has complained about that before, which means something is wrong with our systems I think... They're somewhat close to me, so I might have time to stop by. I'll let you know what happens.

My sager 3880 sound is very loud from what I know. I can turn it all the way up and walk out of my room and close my bathroom door and still hear it. I think there must be something wrong with ur sound. Call sager and find out. It should be very loud and you shouldn't have to strain yourself to hear the sound.

I figured out your problem..

right-click on the red RealTek HD Audio Manager in your task bar..choose sound manager..turn the playback volume up and the WAVE up.. that fixed it for me.

Unfortunately, that didn't work for me.... I'm suffering with the same low volume problems, as the others. Weird thing is, when I 1. Play Music/Video in WMP, 2. Open REALTEK Sound Manager, 3. Click the Audio I/O tab, 4. Click the "Play" icon, under the chair, in the picture, all while music/video is playing, the volume suddenly raises! Of course you here the goofy noise, which tells what speaker is being used, but the volume is much louder. When the little "test" concludes, it's back to sub par volume. And another thing, when I get e-mail with Outlook Express 6, the "Wee-Haw" alert sound is nearly inaudible. Dammit....

Make sure your output is set for headphone insted of line out. Line out will make it really quiet.

control pannel -> Realtek HD Sound Effect Manager -> Audio I/O

Wjf It Looks Like You Tryed Everything. My 3880 Sound Is Fine For A Laptop. I Would Contact Sager. Try Using A External Sound Card, Just To Test.

Thanks for the advice, RCI. I wonder if disabling the Realtek program would be an option? Or maybe reinstalling? Would there be sound, without it installed, or if it were disabled?
