just letting ya guys know i did the cpu mod with the 745 cpu and it works great i must stress though that lapping and applying articsilver5 to the heat sinks are a must im getting 34C idle and a max of 60C at 100% i havent seen the processor go above 63C after 3hrs of testing with CHC

i wanna run prime to see how that works but i feel thats gonna be fine as this is stable as a rock

o yeah and them temps are with the fans on low the whole time if i increased it with fangui to high then it would hover aroun 57 at 100%

in normal processing though like watching movies and stuff it never reaches more then 50 with fans on low

just thought id let you guys know

Wow, just wow.

I got my 1.7 to 2.26 running between 32C and 42 C. The Silver 5 is wonderful!

Cool! You notice a huge speed increase?

is there much difference between 2.1 and 2.4?? it costs probably over $75 more for the 1.8 instead of the 1.6 dothlan....worth it?

well not really lol the cpu i had in there was enough for what i do in the begining i just did this to see if it would work, looks like im gonna have to take it all apart though to send my notebook back to dell possibley because i have a video problem we cant solve as it freeze for no reason o well

but you know ill be putting this back in when i get it back because this is a kick ass mod

Was this the 1.8 that came with the Dell? Or did you have to buy a seperate processor? What did you use for the jumper? Sorry for the newb questions, but I would like to know.

this was not the 1.8 that came with it i had a 1.86 533 the one i used was a 1.8 400mhz and then i just enabled the 133bus threw adding a peace of wire on one of the socket connections

there is a thred all about this you should go check it out i think its a sticky at the top of the forum

new update just ran the system over night (10hrs) using CPU Stability Test 6 which is imho more stressfull then prime95 sense it not only does prime but 5 other real world test at the same time not only that i was DL all night with limewire as well temps never went over 64C on low fan level all night : )

Just curious, did you get a 745 or 745A?
Hmm...very tempting. I have a 1.8 in my 700M. Could try it in my XPS 2....

sprintslash im not sure i didnt check the chip as i didnt know there was 2 versons but apparently whichever one i have works ill let you know what verson it is when i take it apart again to reinstall the old cpu to rma my computer
post #15 of 28
You can try running cpu-z from cpuid.org, and check the stepping (something like 6 or 8) and revision (something like B1 or C0).
My 700M 745 1.8 reads stepping 6 revision B1. I wonder if it would work. Did you have to tweak the voltage??
