I bought a used motherboard off of Ebay - installed it - and then found myself locked out of the system by BIOS password. There is even a password on the BIOS setup utility.
I have googled and googled. No software downloads like KillCMOS will work, because the password barrier doesn't allow the laptop to boot to a c: prompt.
There are no jumpers on the motherboard.
All the backdoor passwords for Phoenix BIOS don't work.
Went to Phoenix site and they recommended pulling CMOS battery and using resistor on battery connector - to reduce system to Checksum bad and return to default settings. Which I did and the system was returned to default CMOS settings - but a password is still required to either boot or to get into the BIOS setup utility.
Short of getting yet another motherboard - I don't know what else to do.
Any recommendations. Is there a Gateway supplied password that anyone has?
