Question about i9300 fans.

My fans are constantly on, but not only that, they are audible. When I first got the computer, they were unnoticeable, but now I hear them like anything. Is this normal? Or should I contact Dell about this?

what are your temps like? Are they hot enough to justify the fans being on a lot? If they are high then I would say talk to Dell. If not.....well lets see your temps first.

how do you check the temps on the 9300? I can only check the temp of my graphics card, not the CPU. it idles about 48C and the fans are usually on as well. depending on what im doing, listening to music or doing nothing, I can hear them. when playing BF2 it goes up to about 63C, which at this temp the fans are on full blast, but are no where near the sound level of my desktop, which fans are at full 100% of the time.

It is called I9KFANGUI or I8KFANGUI. The one with the "9" is newer/more refined.

Courtesy of another thread and another persons hard work. Im just the messenger!

BTW listening to music can increase the cpu's temp quite dramatically. My destop AMD 3200+ idles at 45C and goes up to almost 60C when listening to music, and it is watercooled.

Those gpu temps sound normal. Check to see the difference between the low and high settings in fangui and report them here. Maybe they are stuck on full. I dunno.

Just a thought

You sure you aren't overclocked like 50%? Is your thermal compound applied correctly?

well I can hear the fans, but I can tell you that my slim PS2 is louder then the laptops fans at full.

yeah mx30 it is a 2500+ overclocked to just over 3200+. My fan is not cooling my radiator so that is why it is high. I was just making the point that music can raise the temp and that is why the fans would be on in the laptop doing so.

Good observation on the overclock though. hehe

says:
CPU temp 33C
GPU temp 46C
HD temp 35C
DIMM temp 43C
North Bridge temp 43C
both fans at slow setting, 2500RPM

It's the fans alright

definitely fans..or your ears. Either a the fan(s) it crappy or you hear better than an Afghany mine finder. Those temps are good.

So it's normal to have the fans on? Maybe I'm going crazy.
i would guess that they will turn on and off intermittently(spelling?) depending on the temperature of the cpu. I think I read somewhere that the fans turn on slow at 33C i believe, not sure.
I think this is how it works and the fast speed kicks in at 45 or 50. Do a search, I read it in the forum here somewhere.
