t42 cd drive problem

I've heard from several people that t42's come with a cd drive problem. The CDRW doesn't usually work. A friend of mine had ordered 2 IBM thinkpads with the same problem. I wonder if this problem is as common as I think...
Any ideas?

Depends on what the problem is. In terms of reading and writing CD's, there's no problem. However, sometimes, the CD's don't eject out after pushing the button, so I end up releasing the drive and then popping it back in, and then pressing the button, to get the CD out. However, this seems to be a software issue, not a mechanical one. As of right now, there doesn't seem to be a problem.

Mine doesn't seem to have any problem either reading CDs or DVDs or writing to CDRs.

I saw this symptom twice, but after I disabled the DLA service it's never happened.

I agree about DLA. It can cause issues, especially if using other CD software such as Nero or Roxio. Mechanically I've had no problems so I wouldn't let that affect your purchase decision.
