I have the MX500, and while I'm not extreme gamer, I play FPS pretty often. I've had this mouse for a while with no complaints. Does everything I want it to.
Pardon my BF2 score, that game was too laggy to be good at when I played it. My fragrate is over 2 in America's Army (Half of which is probably from sniping. At long ranges having a decently sensitive mouse is critical), and I deleted my 80+ honor account and started over a month ago, which is a much harder game than the almost arcade-like Battlefield series to have success with. So it's not like I suck and don't know what a good mouse is
The mouse doesn't make the gamer...buy what you need - which is a good mouse designed for gaming. Spending over $60 on a mouse is overkill except for maybe the sponsored professionals who play every hour of every day (BOOM, HEADSHOT!!!). It's like buying a Dodge Viper that you'll never take out of 3rd gear
Getting a hardon over a huge DPI number is just going to cost you money, it's not going to make you a better gamer.
What's my mousepad like? It's a round cloth one I got for being an eBay power seller.
But after all that, the mouse I would reccomend is the MX518. They look slick, have way more sensitivity than you'll ever notice a difference with, and aren't too expensive. $40 on newegg. That's where it's at. I'm thinking of upgrading myself, since my MX500 is getting a little worn and I like the colors of the 518.
