PSA: My PowerStrip Profile for LG

When I went to look at my nVidia settings and it kicked my color profile back to default, I actually said out loud, "Holy CRAP, that looks like shite!"

Now that I'm used to gray grays, white whites, and rich colors, the default settings looked staggeringly bad.

Try it, see what you think. The new forum theme with all the gray looks particularly nice.

Gamma: 1
Brightness: +30%
Contrast: -40%
Temp: 5,400 k

I arrived at these settings by running DisplayMate . It's not quite as good as using a hardware calibration device, but it's a LOT better than eyeballing it.

It will look warm at first compared to the BLUE default settings, but you'll notice the whites and grays when reading the forums.

Fine tune it to taste, of course.

Bumping this back to the front page since we're about to get a whole new wave of questions about this kind of stuff.

Don't forget that you can tweak the digital vibrance in the nvidia controlls to get a bit more color if you like. That always seems to make the colors pop just a bit more. As always set it to personal taste.

Thanks Doc Your right it looks great. Just wish there was a free app I could use instead of powerstrip.

Digital Vibrance is OK, but it's blanket effect is a bit of a problem. Powerstrip acheives the same type of results but in a more controlled and cleaner way.

I'd liken it to a "Tone" knob on a radio versus an actual equalizer.

On my LG I use:

apply adjustments to non linear ramp - graphics arts 2.2 THEN change

gamma 1.2
brightness -35%
contrast -20%
temp - 6500K

THEN go to nvidia control panel and set digital vib one notch to the right. If you then select your the powerstrip color profile you just made, you will still retain the dig vib setting and your powerstrip settings. Course dig vib mainly good for games not really needed to desktop stuff.

Is this a personal taste calibration? Not that there's anything wrong with it if it is, and you can find TONS of them in the forum, but I just wanted to point out, if anyone cares, that mine is based on the result of running professional grade calibration software.

Not that it makes mine better! It's just for those who want something that's close to an industry standard calibration.

Anyone that has an LG WUXGA with no dead pixels wanna trade for a brand new Samsung WUXGA with no dead pixels? Message me. The Samsung screen is on my new m170, only 1 day old now.
