anyone know anything about a Dell Lattitude CPi d233ST?

So, a buddy of mine has this old laptop that he uses just for basic purposes (internet, word, email blah blah), but lately it's stopped working. on bootup, it isn't recognizing the hard drive. it just boots up to a screen that says unable to locate hard drive 0. or something very similar (i might be missing a word or two). my question is, i'm guessing this is a hard disk issue, and i can easily remove to HD, but, does anyone know what it can be upgraded to or where i could find a replacement drive? currently, i think it's just a 3Gig hard drive. and that's probably more than enough for my buddy on his lappy.

or, conversly, has anyone else had a problem like this on their Dell?

now, remember, this laptop is pretty old, it's only 233MHz. he just doesn't have the money to buy anything new, and if this one serves his purposes well enough, i guess he's got no reason to buy a new one.

any help you guys have is greatly greatly appreciated!!

I had a similar problem with an older Dell. The problems was that the hard drive went bad. Any notebook drive should work in that laptop.

thanks raelcun. i'm going to suggest to him to just get a 5gb or maybe a 10gb HD, those will probably be compatible right? he won't need more than that.
