Review: SpeedFreek - My Z70V Benchmarks!

System Specs:
Asus Z70V

2.26 GHz Pentium M (pinmodded 1.7)

2 GB Kingston PC2 4300 DDR2 Value Ram

80GB 5400rpm Seagate Momentus HDD

ATI Mobility Radeon X600 64MB +64MB Hypermemory

Intel ProWireless ABG

3DMark05

Catalyst 5.7 drivers, Catalyst Control Center, ATITool Oveclock to 517.50/285.75

SiSoftware Sandra

I haven't looked at a lot of benchmarks but I think most Z70V owners have been getting 3DMark05 scores in the 1100s, so I'm relatively pleased with my score. How do my SiSoftware Sandra scores compare to other centrino notebooks?

Hey SpeedFreak, did u overclock using the pinmod or dip switch method?
Hmm that is the highest 3DMark05 benchmark I've seen on the Asus Z70v. Is it overclocked?

Where did you order it from? Who ships the 2.26 GHz Pentium M already?

Are you serious about paying over 700 bucks for the 2.26?!

Sorry! I should have said pinmodded 2.26GHz. I used the wire method. Only the Z71V has a dipswitch. The official 2.26 will be shipping soon I think. I got the 1.7 Pentium M on newegg for $250, so I saved a lot. I configured an equivilent Dell Latitude D810 (same GPU and everything), except with a 2.13Ghz PM. I saved $1300!

I have modded 5.7 Catalyst drivers installed, as well as Catalyst Control Center (has an awesome GUI), not sure if it helps the benchmarks though. I have it overclocked to 517.50/285.75 up from 400/250 with ATITool.

I have no regrets about buying this notebook. The build quality and design are incredible.

Thanks. I have a question maybe you guys can answer. In the file system benchmark, it shows my Seagate 5400 rpm hard drive at 32 mb/s and the Hitachi 60GB 7200 rpm drive at 19 mb/s. Is my drive really faster than a 7200 rpm hard drive?
that benchmark there tells u mb/sec .. the 7200rpm HD shud have less access time. but since this benchmark probally access like ONE file or sumfing.. it doesnt' show da power of the RPM i guess? i dunno

sumthing along those lines

No way! I was just curious who ships it...I ordered 2ghz, its the highest you can go before being ripped off

Pinmodding is so easy. If you ask me, you're ripping yourself of if you don't do it.

Nah, those Sandra benches are messed up. I get 32MB/s with my identical Seagate however, so your results are in line. I'd guess the Hitachi should be a bit faster overall. Higher spin rates = more data accessed per second.

hi SpeedFreek, have you tried any games on your machine? like lets say BF2, HL2 or San Andreas? If yes, are they running ok?
thx

Nice numbers. Can't wait to overclock my PMobile 1.7Ghz. Got it for $160 off of Ebay.
BTW, my 5400rpm Hitachi scored a 34 mb/s.

No, I don't have any games yet, don't have a lot of time for gaming . If I was a heavy gamer I would have waited for the refresh. But I do have that free Halo demo thing and it runs smoother that anything I've ever seen. I don't know how intensive that demo is though. As for just everday computing, internet, etc., this thing flies! It's a huge jump coming from a 1GHz Athlon Compaq. That thing is a piece of crap!
