video problem playing starcraft. need help

i know this is an old game but i like it. i have a 9300 with a 128mb x300 card. the game will load up but then it will go back to the windows desktop. a msg flashes very quickly saying "the resolution cannot be something" it is going fast so i cant even read it. i will click on the game again and itll open for like 1 second and then minimize back into windows desktop with the same "the resolution cannot be something" again. any help? thanks

i think your resolution might be too high for the game to display.. mmm, i'm curious to know how you resolve this because i plan to install starcraft on my 9300 too. could it be an issue with widescreen compatability or is it simply unsupportable resolution settings?

Did you try windows 95/98 compatibility mode?

i really doubt it's an OS compatability problem because i can run starcraft just fine on my desktop right now and it's running winxp pro.

it shouldnt be a problem wwith the widescreen as I have an xps2 and I ofter play this game (its one of the best games ever).

The only problem i have with it is, that because i have a widescreen the game is slightly distorted by being stretched to fit the widescreen.

I never had any problem though with it crashing?
Maybe try changing tthe screen resolution before entering the game? (1024x768)
Or as BuZZfgo said trying installing it using the compatibility mode.

I'm pretty sure a game as old as starcraft runs in 640x480, thats DX 2.0, try setting the rez to 640x480 then running the game.
